The Mazda 323 GTX and old Audi Quattros are the best budget rally cars you can get. Nothing really compares for 4wd.

Michigan RS, I'm sure you've seen it, but in case you haven't, Eric Burmeister is selling his very fast (at least when he drives) Golf GTI rally car for $6500 including just about enough spares to run a whole season. He's near Detroit, too.

That's the way to go, you could rally the hell out of that and not even care if it got damaged.

An old Beetle would be cool. They made billions of them AND they are STILL making them. You can actually still get them new at http://www.btlmex.com/
