I voted no, however, they are doing a good job, but they really need to become involved in road racing!

i can't believe how many people have said "no". lets see, in road racing they (obviously) have an investment in the USTCC and next season they are offering a contingency program in the speedvision/scca touring car championship. speaking of contingency, they have a very generous program in national level solo II, as well as sponsoring the central division solo II championship. and then of course there's rally. the first serious works team in ProRally, not to mention sponsoring the series in general. and then giving away free scca memberships with the WRX. subaru has done an amazing amount. what other make of similar size has done so much? or even the larger ones?

I was just wondering, cause it seems like it would be hard for Subaru to devote alot of attention and money to alot of different motorsports! I guess Ford is in alot of races.

"What's a rally?"
"Who makes Subaru?" We're so deprived on cars and car related stuff here in America. At least it's slowly getting better. Mike |

I voted no, but I think that Subaru did a great job marketing the US Subaru SCCA Pro rally team.

I think, yes, for how small Subaru is, they are doing quite a bit in US motorsports. I agree with 10th Warrior totally.
Now, do I think they "promote" their efforts enuff, meaning magazine adds, posters, comercials, stuff like that, no, they are not doing enuff. For instance, Subaru Japan has the "Impreza Meeting" every year with the WRC drivers putting on displays with Q&A's along with alot of racing and such. That type of stuff promotes the brand more then anything with the customers. I know SOA wouldn't do such a thing, but having a little meeting with the Pro Rally cars where you get to meet the drivers and such at a few different locations throughout the country would be an absolutely huge hit, especially with the "cult" status the RS and WRX already have in this country. THAT promotes their motorsports efforts and goes a long way in developing a good relationship with the owners of their cars, not to mention looks good for someone looking to buy a Subaru. Those Saturn picnics were huge with Saturn customers SOA has always sucked big time with marketing, until they struck gold with the Outback. Participating in motorsports is one thing, but if you want the company to benefit from it, you have to market it superbly as well. Then they will be doing enuff. |

Yes, I've heard all about that. The thing is, where was this advertised, on the rally.subaru website, in a magazine or two, was there a memo sent out to all Subaru dealers saying that this type of event is possible and if you would like to do so, here is who you should contact? Hell, why didn't I get an e-mail about it(which I did when they had Mark Lovell on the live chat-That is a step in the right direction).
Doing something like that is definitely what needs to be done, but people need to know about it(not just people who are at the rally...they know what a WRX already is). They need to promote it alot more which is what I'm trying to say. I know it also has alot to do with SOA's different regions as well, because more times then not, it is the regional reps that are responsible for doing such activities. This kind of thing just needs to be done alot more, that's all. |

I don't know that it's so much not enough, but not in the right areas.
While many will vehemently disagree with me, I don't see the massive effort they're putting into ProRally as being quite worth it. That's not to say they shouldn't be doing anything, but I'm not convinced that ProRally is as close to blowing up in the US as some think. I just don't think the average American has the cranial capacity to appreciate rally to its fullest. It's too hard to cover with a video camera for Joe Sixpack to sit down with his beer and watch. |
