Default I'm about to ride a Harley for the first time.

We're down in Punta Gorda, FL visiting my fiance's family and we're about to go on a family motorcycle ride. His dad has 2 Harley Heritage Softtail Classics, his brother has a Honda Shadow and we have....well, our bike in NC. So, we're going to rent a couple more bikes for this afternoon and I'm a little nervous. I'm waiting right now for them to get back from the rental place, and I have no idea what I'm going to be riding.

If I don't return OT, I died in a fiery Harley accident.

ps...wearing riding gear and carrying helmets on airplanes makes people stare at you. I SO wanted us to sit on the plane and put our helmets on, but Rich said no. Party pooper.

---------

So, I got some pics back from our little excursion. Harleys, slow, loud and WAY overpriced. And there's a waiting list to get one. Go figure!

Note, the Honda Shadow. The thing was only $5,000 when my bro-in-law bought it. Sharp, sharp bike.

And, yeah, I lectured Rich about his lack of proper gear. LACES!!

Not that I can talk...I'm wearing jeans.

Be careful sharkie.
They tend to be a bit top heavy. I dropped my first Harley after thinking I had her in control, while stopped in a hill.

Did it hurt?
yup. I burned my leg.

They are kinda fun, you just can't expect them to react to your input very quickly.

That's EXACTLY what I'm worried about. The weight difference from the Kawi is pretty significant and I'm a pretty small girl (5'8" and 125lbs.) I'm worried it might be a little too much. I'm hoping they come back with a Buell for me.

I'm sure it will be just fine to ride...
My motocycle motto. There isn't a bike I wouldn't ride.
However, I'll only own sport / sport touring style bikes.

And....still sitting here. I think they blew me off, didn't rent a bike and went out riding. In which case, I'm going to be wicked pissed off.

I'm sitting here getting angrier and angrier as time passes.

Either that, or they are trying out all the rentals to find you the perfect bike.

Go to Harpoon Harry's in Fisherman's Wharf...have a drink, watch the boats.

IF you do finally get to ride one, don't be too worried about the weight of the bike - softtails are fairly low bikes and fairly well balanced. If you have ever ridden another cruiser you should be fine. But ya might enjoy the Twin cylinder shake a little too much.

Calm down; it could also be something far less conspiracy oriented. Today is the busiest shopping day of the year, not to mention that it's part of the busiest travel weekend of the year.

While waiting sucks, I wouldn't automatically assume that you got ditched.

-Biggly

ps...The helmet on the airplane thing made me laugh. On the slim chance that you did get ditched, wear your helmet back home as protest.

Nah, Rich isn't a Harley guy.

But, now, we just had to turn down a trip in their neighbour's big-ass boat because these jerk offs aren't home.

And, I'm here in the house with Rich's stepmum. We ran out of things to talk about 2 1/2 hours ago. Yeah, great vacation.

They left at 1030a. They have mobile phones. I feel WAPCE rising from the depths of my soul.

Ok, so Rich's dad just got home. No Rich. No brother.
