OMGHi2U Selling artsy & crafty things on Ebay?

So, my momz started making decorative pillows because she's mostly retired at this point and, I think, getting a little bored. Most of them are really nice, but if anything they're a little too nice for the craft show circuit that she's just starting to get in to. She had a few people say they were interested in her making them custom pillows for their homes, but that's it.

I was thinking of putting a few on Ebay to see what happens, and was wondering if anyone (or their momz) has had any luck selling this kind of thing on there. A search for "decorative pillows" on Ebay yeilds crap like this:

Whereas my momz is making pillows more like this:

So I'm a little worried she may not have any luck their either.

find an interior decorator to hook up with, make some spec pillows and take orders from the designer. or find a home decor boutique where she could place her pillows on consignment.

my lady is in the same boat . . . her knitting is above "craft fair" . . . so what do you do with it? she's got stuff in boutiques on consignment.

She mentioned something about trying to go down that route, and you're right, I think that would make a lot of sense too, if she can get the right contacts.

Oh, and IBJokesAboutTimzMomz"Pillows"

I say give it a shot, you can sell anything on teh ebay. I have a neighbor who goes to thrift stores and finds stuff to put on ebay and makes an extra $300 - $500 a month.

I think your mom will have better luck with her stuff than the person selling that ugly thing above your mom's pillow. Try putting a couple out there and see what you find. Also, consider putting a simple web page together for your mom and put that page in the eBay ad. She may generate some custom orders just through passing traffic.

I wish your mom the best of luck, but there are few things I hate more in this world than "decorative pillows". How am I supposed to sit on the couch or get in bed when both are covered with decorative pillows? WAPCE!

Yeah, you can sell anything on eBay. My aunt runs this site: http://www.fantasydollsbyd.50megs.com/ and sells her repainted/clothed barbie's on eBay. Some of them have gone for $300+!!

Well, I finally got around to setting up a webpage for her (http://www.geocities.com/pattypeckspillows/) and my wife and I put two of her more "simple" and country-like sets of pillows up on Ebay and... alas... no bites. Looking through Ebay's other pillow auctions hardly any are selling. So, perhaps that wasn't the best route after all

The pillow market is in the dirt right now...everyone is selling.

Wait a year or two, people will be in the market for pillows again.

I had nothing to add because most of the advice given was good enough.....sorry.

Very true. It's a good time to refinance your pillows, though.

I don't think she'll get her time's worth on ebay.

A starting bid of $25 would scare most people away.

Yeah, I know But, that's what she wanted to go for (actually talked her down from higher) as that's about her cost in materials alone, and looking at the other pillow auctions on Ebay they're lucky to go for $5.

She'd be better off selling custom jobs.. on e-bay or otherwise.

My wife would probably buy crap like that off of E-bay...if I let her out of her cage...
