I mean. I'm not a pilot much to everyone's confusion when they learn I'm an AF vet. But I got to believe it was never not in training to try to avoid whatever you can avoid once **** has hit the fan. "Let's take out this part that says 'aim for a family home just for ****s and giggles' when a crash is inevitable". -Navy after 70+ years of flight.

"They" didn't say which 'last time' they meant. People at the end of the day are interesting if nothing else.
Decades ago (1960's?) a plane went down just a few houses away from mine (I didn't live there then). They were testing a load on a fighter over trees in north NJ. There was an issue and the pilot was barely holding control. He looked down and steered away from a group of houses towards trees. Problem is, the whole town is basically covered in dense trees. He punched out and the plane hit. Is was almost flat on impact so parts scatted. There is a tree with metal buried inside from the crash and a bit chunk of plane just missed a house.
Tons of military blocked the area so they could collect their junk.

I've tried looking it up online, never found a reference.

Air Force's "Frankenbird" flew for the first time this week:

10-5015 Suffered severe tail damage due to a June 2014 engine fire.

12-5053 Suffered nose cone damage due to the front landing gear collapsing on a hard landing.

Nah I figured it would explode into pieces on the surface. I didn’t expect it to pierce through the water so perfectly.

Maybe I am wrong but there is no way an entire fleet of these will be built and flying during his administration...

Yeah, the fly off for the F22 was in 1991. It didn't reach IOC until 2005.

Although Trump did say it's been flying for four years now. I wonder where at....

Hopefully we order enough of them this time around instead of having sort of a bespoke fleet like we did with the F22.

What even is it? All I could hear in that video was a bunch of ass licking but no details.

What's going on at Tonopah these days? That seems like a good place to have been doing this.

Edit:

I went and looked at what's going on there now. Kinda neat actually.

F-117A storage
edit
In 2008, the surviving fleet of 52 production F-117As were stored, with wings removed, in their original hangars at Tonopah. Since the aircraft still contain classified material, the Air Force was not able to mothball them in the normal facilities and will use hangars at Tonopah instead. One of the mothballed Stealth Fighters is painted in “Gray Dragon” experimental camouflage. The last operational F-117A left Air Force Plant 42 at Palmdale, California, home of the Lockheed Skunk Works for Tonopah on 11 August 2008, marking the disbandment of the 410th Flight Test Squadron, the last operational F-117A squadron. Of these, one was scrapped to test effective methods of disposing of the fleet.[30][31]

However, it appears that in 2010, four F-117A aircraft plus two maintenance spares are reportedly back in use for R&D purposes at Groom Lake, but the rest remain in storage at Tonopah. F-117s were seen flying in the Nevada skies in May 2013.[citation needed] F-117s have been spotted flying near Tonopah as recently as February 2019.[32] In October of 2020, a F-117A was spotted landing at MCAS Miramar in San Diego.[33] Most recently, in February 2024, two F-117s were seen at testing range R-2508 in the Mojave Desert.
I spent a couple of months there in mid 90's. We slept on cots in the F-117 hangars.
The night sky there was the most remarkable thing I have ever seen. Cool place.

You didn't hear the news? Boeing has been selected as the winner of the NGAD project and the F-47 will be America's next gen Air Superiority fighter.

What he's referring to is initial operating capability. That happens after several systems have been delivered, in their final configuration, and run through validation testing in operational scenarios. That is when a system is deemed ready to fight.

Silly things happened after F22 was produced that preclude any more from being built. Biggest part was forcing the team to move from Marietta to Ft. Worth. Many chose to not stay with the program. Plus, it wasnt just Lockeed, it was also McDonnel Douglass and they merged with Boeing.

Don't forget the "F47" bit, it's not in normal sequence, it's "named" after Trump.

Wondering if I should frame this... Not sure if it was signed at Edwards AFB or the Sacramento Capitol Air show like 20+ years ago.

How do you know Boeing won't win that too and it be based on the same airframe? Very DOGE-like to me

There already was an F-47.

Also its a good thing to give out a huge military contract while we cut VA benefits, medical resources, and the department of education.

Preventing wars is cheaper than fighting them. Or recovering from them in that matter.

Good thing we're doing everything possible to set those on fire and piss on them in a weak attempt to extinguish them.

His trade war certainly isn't helping. Has the potential to push things back many years and multiply the cost, letting companies like Boeing off the hook for factors they can't control
