planning an audio system upgrade for my 2020 wrx, will be replacing the head unit with a single-din aftermarket one but wondering what the best solution might be for retaining backup camera functionality if possible. my 3 ideas are:
1) i know my MFD has hookups for a front-facing camera, which the backup camera signal could probably be wired into. only issue is it would be activated when shifting OUT of reverse which isnt ideal.
apparently the camera feed can also be activated by pressing the enter button manually, but having it display automatically when shifting into reverse would be perfect (could the reverse signal be "flipped"?)
2) my buddy has a 2015 wrx where the backup camera displays on the MFD natively, although i know the units are wired differently. if i got an older MFD, i imagine i'd have to either source many new harnesses or reconnectorize most existing harnesses to get it functional
3) aftermarket camera/display? tbh i don't really care about losing other MFD functions/menus as long as i have a rear camera. should i just pull the camera signal into a simple display through RCA & power based on ignition? i read somewhere that the backup camera isnt "rated" for continuous use but i'm not sure what the harm would be
i'm open to suggestions if there are better ideas
