I have the Sonos sound bar and the sub and like them for the living room. The usability and ease of setup along with the whole Sonos integration thing is worth the price to me.

To me something like that is an ideal odd-shaped no built in wires room solution for anybody non-audiophile.

It’s like the apple of speakers.

I still stand by this one that I got for while I was gone to have something back in the states.

Hmm. Apparently my research is not complete, then. Most of my collection is DTS, so I would need that capability.

Rethinking the idea.....Not liking it, but liking the savings if I don't spend as much as I would on the sonos system.

That one is good but it doesn't allow for rear wireless speakers. Now considering the Sony HT-Z9F with the optional rear wireless speakers.

But the more I read about the stuff the more confused I get. There are way too many abbreviations. I may just lave it the hell alone and continue using my 9 year old Sony HTIB 5.1 system. Just may have to man up and brave the spiders in the crawlspace to run cables. Or do the tacky cable management along the trim in the room and run cables that way.

I read the specs and its pretty much a sound bar that supports everything.
All video codecs and HDR types (DV, HDR10+), and all sound codecs (Dolby up to Atmos and DTS up to DTS-X, so all). Everything else mentioned is just DSP settings for sound and video (make stuff sound cooler)

I would pull the bottom wall trims and run cables through there. Sound bars are just for the convenience of not having to pass cables to the rear speakers/sub.

I tried to pull the baseboards when I was installing the flooring, but, that wasn't going to work. I ended up cheating and installed the flooring then had to quarter-round it.

There are two open archways I would have to route the wire around, as well. That's why I wanted to go the wireless route.

At that price, it will be more expensive than the Sonos play bar + 2-pack Play:1 combo I was looking at at Costco, but, at least this one includes a sub at this price point. If I were to get both a Sony TV and the sound bar from Crutchfield, though, I get to save $200 on the sound bar.

I was going to get the LG 55" C9 TV from Costco, but now I can get the Sony XBR-55A8G for the same price at Crutchfield. Hmmm....

Why is the **** just so much confusion. And then different brands call the same feature different things sometimes!

Baseboards painted/caulked to the wall? I've had to run a razor blade along baseboards a few times to get them off without destroying the wall/paint.

Rearranged my room and got rid of my 106" Elite pull down screen. Replaced it with a 125" Akia zero edge fixed. Moved all my equipment to a rack and got an articulating mount to still use my 900e. Very happy with the results the screen is amazing. Just waiting on some black velvet for the screen wall.

Not sure. They've been there since 1968 and when I tried to remove, I couldn't without damaging the drywall. So I just went around. If I could pull them off, I would replace with taller baseboards too

There are too many standards and variations. ****s confusing, yo.

Almost pulled the trigger on the TV / HT combo up there, but decided I didn't really need it and stopped.

My biggest beef is that the sound bar won't passively pass signal when connected with HDMI to the HDMI ARC input on my TV. I don't really want to watch the morning news with the sound bar and sub, ya know? So I fell back to the optical connector, which is just dumb.

I was in that boat, but the wife was with me as I was comparing systems and got "oooh, that one. It sounds really good, better than the other one." So, well, there you have it.

Yeah. I hear you.
I put that project on hold for now. I think cable management systems will be cheaper, and I am reconsidering the placement of the TV as I previously planned.

Looks good! I'm going to do a home theater next year, and I was actually thinking of this exact setup. The only knock I've heard about the newer 4K projectors in that price point is that contrast isn't as good as a comparable 1080p. Whats your take? Looked pretty good in the video FWIW. As long as I can get a projector / screen for under $2k the wife is on board. I'll just move my speaker system to support the HT in the finished basement and go with a soundbar on my upstairs TV. As mentioned in previous posts, most of the time when I'm watching movies it's with headphones anyway so a soundbar would be just fine.

Trying to understand the situation. You want to be able to play with tv speakers at times. Your HDMI in should go to the TV in an input, then the one with ARC should run to the sound bar. Then with the soundbar off, the TV should default to internal speakers.

Getting a good 4k PJ and a screen for under $2k - that might be an issue. There are Ok-good PJs for under $1,500. Just depends on how big you want to go, brightness, contrast, light controlled room, etc. But hey with consumer electronics A LOT can change in a year. https://www.projectorcentral.com is a great resource for PJs. I bet you can find something that'd make happy though.

I'm using a 1080p PJ and after 4 years it still brings a smile to my face every time - even with not so great source material. I want to upgrade to a laser PJ next... someday. Who needs a furnace, or a water heater, or siding, frickin lasers are all you need right?

Hence my curiosity on SubieRSjustin's setup. Amazon tells me that combo can be had for ~$1665

If I recall I paid around $1500 for the Benq HT3550. I was actually the first consumer to receive the unit outside of engineering samples sent out to testers. With the user upgradeable firmware updates, it really is a solid 4k projector. Also, the dynamic iris really helps the contrast and it is noticeably better than my HT2050 which I'm still using in my bedroom setup.
The HT3550 has vertical lens shift only, so make sure you check the projector calculator found on their site to make sure it will work for your distance and screen size. I'm doing 125" from approx 12 feet.
I would definitely recommend a fiber hdmi cable such as the Ruipro brand. A little pricey but will save you any hdmi issues, especially if you'll have a longer run.
The Akia screen is also a hidden gem. They're made by Elite Screens and are a great quality for the price.
Note, if you game the lag is somewhat high on the 3550, but unless you're playing fps competitively it's not that bad.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Soundbar has "HDMI in", and "HDMI out to TV ARC". The HDMI ARC on the TV is HDMI 1.
I guess I could try as you suggest and see what happens.

Ok, I guess it was logical, but it does indeed work. It's not the recommended method from the manual but who cares. Also, I'd swear HDMI ARC has better audio than the optical cable.

And another rant... what takes so long with these devices? I plugged it all in and no sound. Jiggled, pressed buttons, nothing. Walk upstairs to office and delete emails, come back down and as I'm about to give up the TV flashes "Amp Volume" and starts using the soundbar.

Regular ARC can go up to DD+ while optical can do up to DD.
e-ARC can go all the way to newest format.

Gripe: My Sony receiver got a firmware update to enable e-Arc, my Sony TV did not.
Dont matter, I got the Shield.

I'm somewhat in the same boat. The last time I perused the store/gave things a listen, even the most basic of basic wired something sounded vastly superior to anything wireless. Bars were better than tv speakers and receiver was better than a bar. It's been a few years though. Is that still the case?

I've been completely out of HT at home for almost 10 years. Just moved, just reconnected everything via wired (cable management with flat speaker wire tucked along the ceiling). I've got a really old Onkyo 7.1..but only wired 5.1. Speakers are a full Polk TSi/CSi setup and I have a couple of small Polk for satellite. Really enjoying the simplicity of this setup. TV has an optical out and

I'm loosely considering swapping out my ancient Onkyo and getting a Marantz 1609 or 1710 to modernize, get something smiller and for bluetooth/wifi. Possibly adding a couple of atmos enabled floorstanding front channels.

Yes, TV < sound bar < proper receiver.

Newer higher end soundbars have come a long way, but just can't compete if you have the room for a proper setup.
Soundbars are super simple. I did find out that audio over the HDMI - ARC is superior to digital if you have that option. My 5 year old Insignia dumb TV even has it.

The Marantz 1609 was on sale last week at Crutchfiled. I seriously considered that when I was looking. It is a really cool looking unit with decent specs.

Bought the soundbar, and in a moment of weakness almost got the Square Trade warranty when it popped up. Then the maths hit...
It adds 2 years of warranty for basically 10% of the purchase price. Doesn't even cover accidents.
