The idea was to redo one pipe at a time. We first started on the up pipe thinking we'll line up the turbo where we want. But the one thing I'll never understand is the square flange for exhaust in. Finding a spare piece of larger stainless that I didn't have, made a square-to-round adapting section.

But we could never get the up pipe to line up the turbo just right, and realize that despise the cracks and rust, the positioning of the turbo was actually quite ideal, so we stopped that and starting working backwards.

We mounted the turbo to the up pipe and installed it, and began work on the downpipe instead.

After taking and positioning each piece in and out a countless number of times, it started to take shape.

And after getting the hang of it more and more each time, started actually welding around each piece.

The downpipe got finished and used it to hold up the turbo, which let us finally get the up pipe sized up right and finished that.

Finally things were looking better and looking like an exhaust again

Again improving on things and due to its smaller size, we decided to reposition the superior Tial wastegate on an angle (rather then straight up like the previous design) so that the wastegate could actually be serviceable. Crazy idea, I know, but I felt I might want to have actual access to it again in the future.

Another crazy idea was to use only 1 cat. Correction, cat simulant. This one's already been hollowed out as well. It's in there with flanges to give the impression of a normal, removable, replaceable cat for any possible AirCare/inspection purposes that could possibly arise.

And after about 30 hours straight or so of being trapped and having to work on the very vehicle to get us home, my friend said, let's finish it off since we have all the equipment out and the car in the air. We were gonna leave it for another day, but decided to finish the project off and make the open (BYAA!) dump pipe.

But on the way home, double checked the wastgate works, and the open dump even scared ME the first time! Let alone the people around me...

The biggest pain was that the braiding on the oil return line was fraid. I had to do an oil line haircut mod just to stop from being stabbed in the fingers trying to get it back on. I'm surprise I still have fingerprints left.

Something I've been looking forward to changing/upgrading. I'm pretty sure the brakes were upgraded using used parts and I never did quite like the look of em. Looking forward to changing to this tomorrow

It's a good thing I actually went ahead with the brakes. I've never touched them since I bought the car and it seemed to brake fine so I left it. I didn't know before how a Subaru's suppose to feel like braking, let alone with 4-pots.

But when I when I went to change them, the rear left had a different set of pads then the rear right and in the front, the pads with the squealers were both on the left, and the normal pads both on the right

I think the rear pads were also incorrect cause they were forced into the calipers, took me hours to pry them out. all rotors were pretty grooved to ****, especially on the inside, looked like from heat.

Oh well, all fixed now

Yes. Yes I did.

Testors (enamel) model paint, those little square glass jars can actually handle the heat. Very inexpensive brake/caliper paint at $1/jar

You're going to love a working set of 4 pots.
Those had to be one of the best WRX upgrades I had done, but they weren't as pretty as yours.

I took my time, and managed to paint them on the car. If you put the wheel back on carefully and go for a drive, they dry in no time.

Looks like I'll need to change the clutch again. It's been a year, but for some reason the Stage 2 'F1 Racing' clutch I got off eGay isn't holding up to my F1 driving (I was between jobs at the time and cheaped out...)

Time I get a real clutch and decided rather then ask Jeff to haul another stock flywheel up from Arkansas, to get a real flywheel to match.

Picked up an ACT 13 lbs Streetlite flywheel off eGay for $100. Described as having only 300 miles on it. Looks like it just needs a cleaning, the surface still feels smooth otherwise.

I'm not in a rush at all for another clutch yet, so I'm keeping my eye out for any deals over the winter/spring, and change it out mostly likely in spring/summer next year.

Going by manufacturer's sites for prices, ClutchMasters seems to be the best bang for the buck so far.

My winter projects are turning more into spring/summer projects once all the parts actually arrive.

Wanna redo the charge piping and hoses. Just waiting on a 90* elbow from Mopac to show up. Should've spent a lil more and got one online...

The JDM rear spats finally showed up today though...

Installed the JDM rear spats last night. Had the advantage of my cousin and a hoist helping me, cause I didn't feel like taking the back bumper off to do it

Had to improvise, and drill, and substitute plastic screws for real nuts and bolts, but got it on without any gaps.

There's a a bit of gap near the ends after the wrap-around, but I think if we did anything to try and correct that it'd just make it worse. We only seemed to noticed with the bumper at shoulder height on the hoist. As we lowered it, you'd really have to go outta your way to look for that to notice.

(That clean spot on the bumper? I noticed when I left that morning that someone had rubbed up against my bumper the night before but my bros was able to help me buff most of it out)

Now that the side skirts (traded) and rear spats are unpainted black, I picked up some bumper black paint and did the front lip to match. It's all black along the bottom now.

I'm gonna see how long this lip lasts. I want to go to one of my old distributors one day, rumage through their bin of lips, see which ones the closest, and make it fit...

The last piece of the puzzle I ordered from Mopac on Boxing Day finally showed up last week, and put everything in. (I think I'll just stick to buying stuff like this online) Somethin I've been putting off doing since I bought the car

Sandblasted off the blue paint and clear-coated the exhisting pipes (I like that 'metal' look) and cut down one pipe to eliminate this extra outlet that wasn't being used. Went with red to match the STi intercooler hose I already had.

Yes, the elbow's kinked, but it's actually an improvement over the one that came with the car. It was worse; believe it or not. I'll be getting around to clocking the turbo hopefully in the next couple of weeks for this new piping (ran outta time yesterday) and be able to go with a piece of straight tube upwards from the turbo.

I actually gained some throttle response. The gas pedal is a lot "lighter" now and barely have to give it anything (by comparison to before) to maintain speed. I think something was leaking this whole time; I won't complain if I get extra mileage out of her.

Default Back in black

I've had the car for just over 4 years now, and back in January the painted (blue) interior pieces started to bother me. Was never an exact match to the car anyway. I had time and wasn't raining today and finally got around to doing it.

Actually used Plastikote Bumper Black and took about half an hour. Don't know why I didn't do it sooner...
