I picked up some 1982 Klipsch Heresy's for the shop we're breaking ground on in the spring. I always wanted a set and I can drive them with a little Dayton DTA-120.
I plan to finish them up this weekend. I replaced all the drivers, added bracing, re-did the crossovers, and will be redoing the grille with the same fabric used on the 70th anniversary speakers.

Nice job on the refurb. That brings up a question. I've got a pair of Boston Acoustic VRS that I was using for surround channels. One of them has developed a "rattle" at mid level listening. I'm assuming one of the drivers is the cause. Should I bother replacing the drivers (couldn't identify which one was ****ting itself) or just use these spare Yamaha NS-12M studio monitors in place?

Not to critique, but if you replace drivers etc, at what point are they no longer Klipsch (or whatever brand) speakers?

They are horn loaded drivers that sound good. I did the same with my La Scalas and they sound great. Basically a new speaker to go another 40 years.
The design is Klipsch. |

My dad has a set of old Bose 901s, solid wood cabinets, but all the surrounds rotted away. Are they worth anything? Restore or sell to some nostalgia freak?

Agreed. Bose never made great speakers and they are not solid wood. They are particle (not even fiber board) board with a veneer.
You can get replacement drivers, but they add up with the sheer amount that the 901 takes. I thought about doing this for my shop, but you have to have the equalizer, which you can buy a new one, and they need a crap ton of power. |

I restored my dad's 901's, series II I think. They were great so long as the required eq is good but they seem to **** the bed often. I knew this so I got a new-to-me good eq and just ran it to fail then sold the speakers on.

You can try this coupon for 20% off at auidoengine. PASSPORT2020. The A5+ are larger than I expected but sound great.

https://community.classicspeakerpage...-series-model/ Bose was all about building with the absolute cheapest materials they could. I had a few Bose speakers in the day. The 301 series IV were fantastic, but still built very cheapo. |

really want to pull the trigger on the 77" LG CX and move our 65" C7 to the bedroom. Wife is heavily in favor... but I'm thinking of preserving the wallet.

I ended up getting these for $100 off - for my intended usage they should work fine. Do you find that the internal DAC for BT streaming is adequate? I don't have a computer nearby so I don't see a huge need for a DAC since it's already integrated for BT, unless, of course, thats still meh

Sony 85in X900H https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-85...?skuId=6401211 or LG 86in Nano Cell 90 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-86-c...?skuId=6401853 or something else in that $2k ish range? Ive always enjoyed our LGs and theyve held up well over the years. |

Yarp. The Sony is going to be the all around better choice.

Ordered the only piece of gear missing from my theater, a second sub. HSU VTF3 Mk5. My single one now rattles the room so now so it is going to be riot in there on BR2049. Cannot wait. Now to get some foam and acoustic treat the room and it is done, finally! 7.2.4. Sony x940E. JBL 580 fronts (590s would not fit), 520c, 530c side and rears, and Atmos are 4 JBL Studio 210s. 7.2.4 coming soon.

I'm a Hsu Research fanboy. I run a pair of VTF-3 Mk5 HPs in my living room (along with an HC-1 Mk2, 6 HB-1 Mk2s and 4 Prime Elevations). It's pretty mind-blowing on movie night on the 77" CX.

Yup. When I built the theater last year, I researched my ass off for far too many hours. I like HSU the best. I like that if I blow an amp, inexpensive to replace and they are extremely customer service orientated. Now I will have a pair of VTF-3 MK5’s in the theater and I have the VTF-2 MK5 in my master in a 5.1 setup. Soon to be 5.1.2. #addictedtoHT
