Talking Building Rally Car

I'm looking to build a rally car. I know that my Subaru is more than enough and it's done really well in only 2 events (3rd and 1st) but I need a car that I could tear up and not worry about it. I'm looking for one of the following:
Volkswagen Golf (1985-1991)
Honda Civic Hatchback (1987 -1992)
Honda CRX (any)
Mitsubishi Eclispse(1990-1993)

If you know of any of these vehicles being sold, let me know. Thanks, Jeremy #69

Unless you can build it all yourself I would seriously consider buying one thats already built. Saves you a lot of heartache and money in the long run. Look here http://www.bensrallypage.com/forsale/forsale.html I also know of a really nice PGT Toyota Corolla hatchback (Bob Orr's car) with no rallys on it thats up for sale locally.

Unhappy That's what I wanted to do.....

That's what I wanted to do but it's too expensive to buy a pre-built rally car. I am looking for a running car that I can modify slowly and race at the rally-x's until ready. I have raced in Rally-X twice now and I can't stop racing. I hope you understand and if you can help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Jeremy

Well, I have kind of the same opinion as Tangmere about buying something that has already been prepped... My brother just bought the 323GTX all ready to rumble with lots of spares (including an engine).

Having said that, I would say the Civic hatch or first gen crx si. Those would be really strong cars to run in production without too many mods. I think you would end up spending more in the end after you add up the costs of the cage (there is talk about bolt in cages not allowed), seats, suspension, spare wheels, rally odo, etc...

One of the rally guys like Tom Nelson should be able to give you a lot of good advice about which direction to go and how much it should all cost.

I've got a 1984 CRX i might part with - It has new clutch struts and tires, and is used as the subysports loaner car for the time being.

Email me for my cell # and we'll talk.

I have an 84 or 85 crx for sale. Well, actually my friend owns it. It's just taking up space in the garage. First $300 takes it. It runs good, not sure if if it passes emissions.

I have a 1990 Eagle Talon (non-tsi) that I'd probably sell.

I would rather buy a car for $3000 that's already prepped, cause in the end run you'll end up spending over $10000 any other way. Just look at Brooks Freehill's car (the Scirocco)

Well, I can't beat $300.

I bought mine for $300 and had to tow it to Braden's - the replace the carb base gasket and vacuum lines, the clutch, the struts, the tires, the oil and plugs, and fixed the air conditioner.

I would need closer to $1,200 for it now.

Check out coloradorally.org too. Ron Nelson is the guy I think KeithRS was referring to. He's the moderator there. He has a few extra Eclipses laying about.
