08-14 Bilstein GTWorx w/ RCE Blacks
Hi Nasioc,
I Have a '13 hatch and its about time for a new suspension and I think that RCE black springs are what I'll end up liking the most. Seems like might as well look for the Bilsteins to go with them too, so if you have a set to sell my Paypal is ready! If not this combo, I'd be interested in any similar stock-ish ride height and comfort combo that would be a simple swap. Not super interested in maintaining full coilovers especially since most are geared towards stiffer sporty rides. My back prefers a comfy ride with less roll Thanks very much!

I am in the market for this same combo. I reached out to RCE and they informed me they should be getting struts soon but there is no ETA on the springs. I am considering Swift sport springs in place of the RCE blacks in the event the struts come available. I had Swift’s on my Evo 8 and I was really happy with them. Good luck in your search.

I had the Swift Sport springs and GR-2 combo on my '06 Forester XT way back, drove like a dream. I dont auto-x or do anything more than spirited LA pothole daily driving tho so my needs are basic. I definitely looked a bit into Swifts for my hatch but it seemed like the prevailing modern favorite was the RCE black/Bilstein combo so I figured I'd ask. Also it was easier to find listings specifically for the WRX Bilsteins as a set vs a Koni Yellow combo lol. Took me a minute to find part numbers for the yellows and its kind of annoying to have to buy them all individually but they sound like they would be a nice alternative if the Bilsteins arent produced anymore or no one is selling a used set. I just also dont want to cut and build the Koni inserts too

The Bilsteins will go back into production and will be available soon according to RCE but not the Black Springs, only Yellows. From my research the Yellows seem too much for daily driving. So maybe go with the Bilstein Swift combo if you can’t find used. Check other forums too. Can’t the STi suspension be used on the 11-14s? I can’t remember. It was confusing as is with all the changes Subaru made for some reason. |

Dude 8 years ago I feel like I was fluent in all things Subaru when I had my Forester, now I'm starting to look at minor upgrades as parts like the struts start to get worn and I feel like info is either harder to find or confusing lol. Figuring out is parts are the same between the widebody WRXs and STis or the hatchbacks vs sedans is kind of a headache! Like, is there a difference between RCE blacks for WRX and STis? RCE doesnt have part numbers to verify. Shrug, I guess Swift it is! As for yellows, I assume the 08-10 WRX and 11-14s are incompatible, it looks like the earlier body got complete struts but not the widebody like you said which is a total bummer. Its sneaky difficult to figure out if anyone else makes a complete strut for the car too, I feel like I'm running in circles on google lol

Wish I could tell you definitively but don’t want to lead you astray. The info’s out there, just scattered everywhere. I just remember thinking for once I’m glad I have a ‘10 so I don’t even get tempted by running an STi setup. IIRC the STi uses inverted struts? But the spring lengths are the same AFAIK. You have the JDM pink option too. Pray you find a complete setup from a running car. Easiest way IMO but all the best either way |

Yeah fingers crossed someone decides to upgrade to a newer model and has a back to stock sale lol. Way back I traded some coilovers for the Swift/KYB combo that was already assembled, such an easy install without having to get spring clamps or try to drill and saw struts. Really hoping for a similar experience with the install again, I dont have the energy or brain power for the rest of it anymore! I appreciate the convo and some insight, its definitely tough trying to get back into it all after the previous XT and years of being content with a stock ride!

My pleasure man. You might want to check that famous auction site. Google the seller and get ‘em on the horn to see if they give you a better deal. You know, them saving on seller fees and all. Pay with a credit card or PayPal though just in case you need protection
