New Cobb TMIC
Just installed the Cobb TMIC on my 2016 WRX. I had been running the Perrin chargepipe with the stock TMIC. For anyone trying to run the cobb tmic with the perrin chargepipe, it will NOT work. The perrin CP is too angled both at the intercooler connection and at the turbo. I was assured by an online vendor that i purchased the TMIC from, that this combo would Definately work, they stated that they had plenty of other WRX’s running this combo without problems. They lied. I am now out $270 for having to purchase the cobb chargepipe just to get my car back on the road.

Im sure this info will help someone else out for sure. GGz
FWIW, I like to streamline parts to minimize cross-brand fitment issues. Like my GS TMIC with GS charge pipe. No brainer. |

what vendor did you purchase it from? I've heard of other people having fitment issues with the Perrin charge pipe that's why I stayed away from it

I too was gonna purchase the Grimmspeed instead of the cobb, but was assured this would fit the Perrin. So i trusted Kyle @ Maperformance. I emailed them and they promptly sent me a RMA. Kudos on them, but really, come on. If you arent sure, dont assure someone. I wouldve just not spent the money on it. Its installed, the cobb pipes on the way, im not gonna remove it. Also, the cobb tmic doesnt come with the 10mm nuts to secure the new air splitter to the hood. I had to source them myself. WTF cobb?!

So now that you have the charge pipe sorted out... Impressions or dyno numbers for the new TMIC?

There wont be any noticeable gains or feel with a TMIC upgrade. IC upgrades alone are more of an efficiency mod for cooling air and keeping air cooler longer when compared to whatever was the IC before.

I have the Process West Verticooler, and after a lovely fall-spring of boost weather the first 90 degree day murdered the car's soul lol. Made me think about doing some kind of CO2/water spray for it.

I did WMI for what you described. 90 outside? WOT sends intake temps down to ~45-50 lol super trippy see it drop like that from the meth but super convenient on hot days.

edit: in case you see this, mind pointing me to the most useful threads regarding WMI for the FA20? I am pretty good at doing my own research but you're ahead of me! Last edited by timpala11; 05-05-2021 at 05:21 PM. |

Meh
Car pulls better even without a tune. Have WMI as well, just havent decided if i want to tap the new intercooler or tap the silicone outlet pipe. I had it on the stock intercooler setup and it was awesome. Side note: those installing a IAG AOS V3 street version should install the cobb TMIC bracket first. Otherwise youre gonna have to pull the hose out from the bracket on the trans.

I started here. I also had the chance to speak to rod over at pro-meth over the phone and he was a great help at understanding it all. Plenty of vids on youtube as well explaining the differences between details of nozzles, hose, pumps, waters, meths, etc. |

iirc - Cobb's website says that the Cobb TMIC needs to be paired with the COBB charge pipe.
