Default Subaru is teasing us with this cryptic image.

Quote:
Something Wild Is Coming From Subaru

Subaru is teasing us with this cryptic image.

Press releases come in many flavors. Sometimes they're packed with technical details, sometimes they're precisely written with just the facts, and sometimes they're long and laboriously worded. However, Subaru just went against the grain and delivered us a single image of a car taken from miles away and two sentences. "Subaru of America, Inc. has invited people to join the auto manufacturer for a world premiere later this month. The next evolution of Subaru capability is coming, and it is packed with functional technology and rugged features, inside and out."

However, we think we know what's coming from the Japanese automaker.

Most likely, Subaru is keying us up for the release of its all-new variant of the Subaru Outback line called the Wilderness. So far, we've only seen spy shots, but we know it's due for production at the end of 2021 for the 2022 model year. From what we've seen, we know it will ride on a taller suspension setup than the standard Subaru Outback and come with its own stylized wheels and more aggressive tires. No doubt it will come with a more rugged look as well to show off its improved off-road capability.

We're not expecting an update of the four-cylinder Boxer engines for the new Outback variant, but we suspect Subaru will make the more powerful turbocharged 2.4-liter engine, rated at 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, standard on the new model. Subaru is making the bold claim of the new vehicle being "packed with functional technology," which likely means an improvement to the Outback's already impressive safety features and infotainment system. It could also mean an agressive evolution of Subaru's excellent symmetrical all-wheel-drive system for the more off-road oriented Outback Wilderness, but we would be moving into guesswork at that point. So, we'll just have to wait for the reveal on March 30 to find out.

Right? I don't know why they even bother using sheet metal and painting it at all; just make every panel out of textured and unpainted plastic already, it's what the people want

Sounds like the Honda Element! I saw a lot of Elements on the street that I was surprised when Honda killed it.

You can't overland and be an influencer without rugged cladding and raw dogging nature.

The fact that is a thing just makes my skin crawl. Nuke social media from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

Some internet sleuths in another forum have concluded that the Wilderness package exterior bears a striking resemblance to the current trimwork on the Australian version of the Outback. Subaru really going back to the future on this one...

It's what all the soccer moms want.

Plus of a part has to be replaced/repaired, it's cheaper than having to repaint the whole thing.

We're basically reverting back to old cars with rubber or chrome bumper beams. My first car was a Subaru Loyale sedan. One time my buddies and I were heading to lunch in separate cars and I was stopped at a light in front of them. As I was sitting there I suddenly felt a slight bump from the rear. I looked in my rear view and saw the faces of my buddies in their SUV behind me just cracking up because they had ever so slowly closed in on my rear bumper until they made contact.

I'm not saying we should go back to unsightly bumper beams, but it certainly was nice to not care so much about the condition of my BUMPER when it got... BUMPED!

Those rubber and chrome bumper beams are more durable than the plastic covers we get today. The front bumps get so chipped up so easily unless you go straight from the dealership to have them clear bra'd or ceramic coated.

So are they revealing just the outback version or will they also have a Foz version?

Everything indicates it will be Outback version debuting with Forester and Crosstrek version coming later this year.

Meh. Unless they reveals something unexpected about the drivetrain, just meh!

I would think they'd shout from the mountaintops of Jersey if this thing had LSDs, or ANY LSD.

For what this is likely going to cost, you'd be better off with a 4Runner for the same money if off-roading is truly your thing. The CVT alone makes it a non-starter for me.

I'm going to say that people with this on their mind WILL more likely get those types of vehicles. This is for the Subaru customer that does a lot; but, wants a bit more.

I hate to think about cost too but will sell because it is plenty off-road capable for most. It looks the part with much better mpg than the 4Runner and actually be road comfortable, where 97.836% of these vehicles spend their lives.

I see enough jacked up and modded to the hilt Outbacks and Crosstreks out here in AZ that it just makes me wonder why bother? Start out with a better platform if that's truly what you want to do rather than throwing thousands of dollars at something that's a compromise.

What's the difference when you see the jacked up and modded SUV's and Trucks that don't do more than serve as DD's? So many are modded to the T for overland adventures and they don't see an ounce of dirt. Why mod a GTI into a track car when you should start with a better platform? Jeep built a track focused Grand Cherokee, why bother?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.aut...otos-facelift/ If we look at the spyshot photo of the forester we will recognize many wilderness features are missing. this car has no wilderness badging. It seems to have the difference in height and the skid plate, but it seems to be on regular tires, not specific all-terrain treads. this may simply be a mule to test increased height and the brand new eyesight x calibration. One other thing, if you really intend to go in the wilderness and up in the mountains with the added weight and gear, then reintroducing the turbo engine is the most logical choice due to the elevations you will be going. we await the real wilderness edition reveal
