went to the dealer today with the wifes 11 forester. they did oil change for consumption test, and 2 tsbs i had not done. gotta wait 1200 miles and see if it uses 1/3 qt. got a 16 forester loaner for the day. they put that piss oil 0w20 back in and the little 15a blue filter. ive always used the black 130 roki filters since day one. im sure that its gonna need alot more that 1/3 qt in 1200 miles the way its been using oil lately.

Went in for my 1200 mile check and they said it hasn't burned a drop. I explained that I've had to add as much as 1.5 Qts AND had the low light come on twice during a single OCI. The service rep said the next step in documentation is to wait for it to get really low again and bring it back without adding any oil so they can get a measurement. They might be able to take that to Subaru and make a case.

:heavy sigh:

It's not bad right now but I'm also only at 58K miles. I'll post updates as I get them.

Also, still no word on class action warranty extension.

Interesting. You are experiencing the same thing I am. Oil seems to burn progressively faster as it wears. My car won't burn hardly any in the first 1200 miles, but I am approaching .5 quarts low with about 2700 miles on this OCI.

ours has 69k miles on it. its used oil for like 40k miles. they told me do not touch the oil level. im gonna keep an eye on it. if it gets low on the stick ill just go in sooner. they told me no appt needed for the follow up oil check. im not playing games with them saying its not bad. the engine eats oil like crazy. im getting a new engine.

Just dropped my impreza off today at the dealer for its engine replacement.
They said it would take up to 4 weeks to get it done, as there are 2 others in front of me for the same thing. "But as long as it's here with us, it's in line to be fixed"
They were not able to give me a loaner, as all of theirs were already loaned out.
But luckily I have a back up car. And as long as this job is getting done, I'm willing to over look that.
Will post when updates follow.

So glad my dealer is also a Chevy dealer. I never thought Id want a GM product but rather than deal with repairs on the oil issue, and rather than keep topping up the oil all the time, Im aborting mission on my 15 Forester and getting into a Colorado Duramax....or as I like to call it, the Chevy Luv mk2. Still made by/with Isuzu.

My Foz has an on again-off again oil thirst and Ive just kept up on it myself. Since Im otherwise not satisfied with the car, Im going to abort lease and get into that truck. I can luckily get out of it pretty painlessly since Im giving them another sale, being the same dealer for both makes.

Outside of the oil issue, its my least satisfying of all 7 of the Subarus that Ive owned for the following reasons:
-VDC is awful, it gets me stuck in deeper snow and on dirt roads. I live where it snows a lot.
-the heater is grossly inadequate, not acceptable for the 'snow car' its supposed to be.
-the infotainment system/bluetooth is absolutely horrible. It has a mind of its own
-the passenger weight sensor gets activated by a 1 liter nalgene bottle, if you want to keep it on the seat, you have to buckle it up
-it has the worst clutch and shifter Ive had on any car. Makes me wish I went CVT. A forester does not need a 6MT. Its the only car Ive missed shifts on in 26 years of driving manual cars.

Lots of other smaller annoyances. Bummer. Im keeping my 2006 WRX wagon with 210k miles on it. Never used a drop of oil. Bought new.

I suppose you're fortunate to have a backup vehicle, but for someone who doesn't, I'd be pissed and chew up a manager.

Consumer Reports gave the 16' Impreza an Excellent reliability rating. I'm wondering if anything has changed with newer models in regards to oil consumption. Still too soon to tell I think.

I suppose its possible oil consumption is not taken into account with reliability, but if it were my review, I think I'd dock it a few points of the oil issue.

2015 Forester 2.5i premium no longer in my possesion. Hooray! Escaped the lease before having to deal with any more oil issues, but mostly glad to be rid of the only Subaru that I hated....for many reasons. Oil consumption was just icing on the cake.

I checked another member's warranty coverage today and the extension was added on 4/16, the day before you posted this. I bet if you run it again, it'll show up. Shoot me your VIN (last 8 at least) and I can check.

coming up on the 1200 mile check for my wifes forester. its near the bottom of the stick by add already. how many consumption tests do they do before warranting a new shortblock? the papers say 1/3 of a qt in 1200 miles is the threshhold. im beyond that. it needs about a qt already.

Came back to the dealership and oil was 1.1 qt low after 1800 miles. The FB25 short block got warrantied and replaced within 3 weeks; no questions aked (didn't even have to submit oil change receipts with 58000 miles on the ODO).

They had the car for a week. New short block does not visibly consume any oil and it feels stronger in terms of power.
It makes me realize how messed up the old short block really was.

Mine is an '11 Fozzy as well with the same 'ol 4EAT. I can't tell you how many times I cussed that 4-speedBut, lo and behold, with new short block, it seems like I don't have to downshift to 2nd as often as before; the engine runs really well now.
And now, with the warranty extended to 8 years/100,000 miles, I feel better about keeping that car for a while longer.

New OEM short block; they re-use everything else (heads, oil pan, and so on).
I got them to replace the spark plugs while they were in there.
