Curious if it was a ruptured fuel line that caused the fire after landing.

He worked out of Sacramento, and retired around the that time (I think.) But, occasionally gets paid to go do tests in Camden, AR.

I'm not sure why he wouldn't. Elon is bringing back old school. This is cowboy rocket development in full swing. Then again your step dad is old but he's not old enough.

I can see that. I guess I'm reading more of him not liking SpaceX when it clearly says it's him not liking a douche nozzle. My bad.

Look if we ever want to get to the moon, we need space X to be really good at ISS crew missions. I wish him all the luck in the world. He has hired many people I have worked with in the past and many of them are quite bright. All the huge mistake and learning NASA learned during Apollo and Shuttle were rolled into vehicle requirements that Space X was given to design their vehicle around. They took those and built a rocket. That is what NASA is supposed to do. Learn the hard lessons and prevent the private sector from making them.

I am not a fan of Elon, but I want Space X to succeed. They are a modern space company. They have the monetary backing to be allowed to make mistakes and not get shut down. Elon can just pick up the pieces and build another rocket. Outside of using procedures and requirements to help you avoid blowing things up, this is how you learn.

NASA does not have the funds to blow up half a dozen rockets. Elon does and while it sucks to lose a rocket, he has bright minds working with him and they learn form their mistakes and that is how you make progress. You have to make mistakes to make progress. It teaches you where you sensitivities are and it teaches you how much you do not know.

Ok. Would have never read it that way. I'll take your word for it.

I'm of the same opinion as you. Don't read me thinking he's a douche nozzle into me not loving what he's doing. He's a generational talent. That guy has crazy vision for what and how to facilitate a creation of his own mind or somebody else's. The number of irons he has in the fire boggles the mind. I've enjoyed his accomplishments and for me he lives in the separate the art from the artist category.

Anyone else watching the live stream of Virgin Galactic doing their little space trip today with Branson aboard?

Looks like it did. Was pretty anti-climactic. And filmed with a toaster. They flew up on the "mothership", detatched, super zoomed straight up in their little pod, did a flip in space, floated for like 1 min, and are headed back down right now.

Yeah, seemed more like a publicity stunt to be the first billionaire "in space".

I haven't followed the Virgin Galactic project much, was this event technically significant for the industry?

It's significant because it's the first flight for space tourism. Just have to be rich.

I'm sure when Bezos does it next week it'll get way more publicity.

Dennis Tito was the first billionaire in space. Branson is the first to fly to space on his own spaceship. I think it’s cool, the more people get into space the better off we are. Commercial air travel started off just for the wealthy too.

Inspirational but not quite as much as they are trying to sell it as, and speaking of selling.. what a commercial the company live stream was. I had to put it on mute.

It really is just a "space" roller coaster for the rich. The historical part was when they originally won the X-prize back in 2004. Virgin Orbit is actually doing a functional version of this with an air launched rocket from a 747.
