Default Cel P0420 :(

Hi there, hope you guys are keeping safe and healthy during these extraordinary times.

It's my first post here

I did sufficient research here and there but couldn't find solid answer as I think it's related to the current tune I'm running.

I have 2014 STI hatchback that’s currently running the OTS stage 2 + SF ACN91 Boost Select OTS tune with proper bolt ons (COBB SS 3” Cat-back + COBB GESI Catted 3” downpipe + SF Intake system + SF Airbox + Turbo Heatshield.).

I live in Vancouver BC Canada and due to poor quality gas here, I have been using ACN tune and been filling the Shell 91 only as it’s arguably top quality gas we can get here other than E85.

I haven’t had any problems during my ownership with COBB products but today CEL popped up while I was cruising on a highway.

It’s CEL P0420, Catalytic Converter Efficiency Below Threshold.

My previous vehicle was BRZ and I had the exactly the same CEL due to running no CATs (Tomei Catless UEL header and Invidia Catless front-pipe). It was easy fix with Open Flash Tablet’s(it’s like COBB accessport for BRZ/86s) OTS stage 2 tune. However, my current set up on my STI is catted cuz I still have OEM header and GESI ‘Catted’ 3” downpipe.

It’s well out of warranty so I just don’t feel like to take it to the local dealership and I live in a downtown condo with limited underground parking so I cannot diagnosis my car without a proper garage space, tools and a hoist.

The only change made to my car before a long drive (about 100KM) today was to update AP along with latest version of OTS stage 2 + SF map to V 400 from V 334. I have been using V334 map for awhile with no issues or CELs at all and I just realized there’s newer version of OTS tune so I just gave it a try.

Anyway, I cleared the code and tune it back to V334 for now and I will go for another long drive to see whether it pops up again or not.

Thank you for reading this far but my question is I heard there’s way to disable/suppress CEL P0420 using the Accesstuner or something but before I try that route, I wanted to confirm if OTS stage 2 maps come with CEL P0420 disabled already.

I’m a DIY car guy but when it comes to ECU tuning I consider myself as a complete beginner. The code is cleared and gone for now but I’m sure it will come back as it’s notorious CEL for Subaru’s. Please guide me to the right direction to fix this for good.

Thanks yall in advance. Any inputs help.

Having tuned using accesstuner the vehicle I was working on didn't have the p0420 disabled. I believe all cobb maps are for catted downpipes so they leave that enabled. It takes $150usd to be able to use accesstuner, now I don't usually tune cobb but I believe you may be able to disable the code by using the accessport alone.

Yeah.. It looks like I have to buy some program to get accesstuner. I will just live with it then lol. I used AP to clear code but I don't think there's way to disable/suppress certain codes using AP alone but I'll do some more research.

Thanks for the info!
