Default Crankshaft position error codes and Loud ticking

Intermittently in the past, I've gotten P000C, P000D, P0021, and P0024 codes but after clearing them a few times, they seemingly stopped coming with an oil change.

A few weeks ago, while coasting into my driveway, I heard a loud ticking start which varied with RPM. It sounded just like a spun bearing to me but when driving to my mechanic, the sound completely stopped. On the way there, it also threw those codes from before. My mechanic found nothing wrong and couldn't explain the codes.

I took the car back and the car intermittently would make the loud ticking sound. The error codes now come up every time after a couple minutes of driving.

From looking at my AP, "AVCS in Right" values do look normal for the most part but "AVCS in Left" is varying between -31 and 14.

any suggestions on what I should do? I have mostly full bolt ons and a build iag short block.

those codes are for the OCVs. did you change them out? does your mechanic specialize in subies or just a general mechanic? Its a common failure point and a subaru based mechanic would know the solution from the codes.

Cams are out of time swap OCVs left to right and if the code moves your ocvs are shot and need to be replaced if it doesnt move you need to pull the timing cover to figure out whats going on.

He's not a specialized subi mechanic. Thanks for the input. I'll switch them and see if the code switches sides.
