clear coat buffed right off.... what to do
so I have some spots on my old brp paint that are a bit flakey, but now have a new issue.... I had some stuff fixed on the car, but noticed when they polished it up, the clear coat has been buffed right off in a few spots... too thin, or too much polishing, and won't shine anymore...
are there any quick fixes for this ? or does it need a re-paint ?

there are supposedly some clear coat restorers out there, may help if its a few small thin spots, but most likely long term your in for new paint.

If it's a small enough spot with a solid parting line you can do it yourself to paint/clear coat the area. I do it all the time on aftermarket parts including splitters, lips, diffusers, etc. and they turn out very well.
You can source clearcoat rattle cans off the shelf, if not I order from places like paintscratch dot com or similar. The trick for clear is to do one rich coat using the fan nozzle and borderline dripping to get the nice shiny shell. Then after a few days come back with some light compound (if you end up with runs I'd use some 2000 and 3000 grit sanding block to flatten) and smooth it all out. What were you using to polish the paint? Hope no old t-shirt, compound by hand or using a cotton pad and direct drive.. I only use real mild stuff like ScratchX and either orange or red foam pad depending on the depth of the imperfection, going over it either gently by hand or using random orbital. |

Time for a visit to whoever burned through the clear coat.
So many people watch youtube videos of detailing, get a polisher, and go to town on other people's cars without knowing what they're doing. It's really shocking what some people think they can charge others for. |

Wrapping can be challenging, usually doesn't look good if the paint underneath isn't in good shape

Should try vinyl wrapping a part of the car as a test. See how it looks.

I've had luck with the rattle can clear coat too for smaller areas. I've had good results with both KBS Coatings Clear Diamond Finish and Eastwood 2k. KBS is about twice as expensive but didn't take as much finishing work.

Honestly a repaint, or a wrap. But with wrapping you have to sand down areas with missing clear coat like that |
