Rusted DP: Scotchbrite?
Recently bought a GS DP off a user here, and it's got pretty heavy rust on there (he sent me pics before so I knew what I was purchasing).
Since it's constructed from 304 Stainless and a solid build from most reviews, I assume the rust is mostly gunk and road salt from the previous owner's driving in the snowy northeast. I live in California with no road salt, so I'm thinking of taking scotchbrite and soap to the DP just to make it look nicer and kill some quarantine time. Any thoughts? Any particular better alternatives that I can go with?

Maybe something like a Stainless Steel polish of some sort that are used for Appliances as well?
I bought a used SS Nameless CBE that needed some cleaning and with Scotchbrite, I used Hope's Stainless Steel Polish/Cleaner and it came out quite well. |

Maybe start with a wire wheel to make your life easier, graduate to an aggressive scotch brite, and finish it off with some metal polish and fine steel wool.

If it looks rusty after DP, might I recommend an enema first?

A little late to the party. But Eagle One never dull works great on SS exhausts. It does not scratch like steel wool and the chemicals in it will break down the melted on road grime and slight surface rust.

I've used Scotchbrite pads and a little light oil on my stainless mufflers. Very quick, simple, cheap and effective for light surface rust. Good luck!
