Default 2021 Subaru Forester Adds New Safety Tech, Starts At $24,795

Quote:
Pricing details for the 2021 Subaru Forester have been announced in the United States and, despite featuring a host of updates, prices rise by no more than $400.

For the latest model year, Subaru has equipped the Base and Premium trims with Steering Response LED headlights with High Beam Assist, features previously only available on the Limited and Touring trims. The 2021 Forester is also equipped with a Rear Seatbelt Reminder as standard equipment.

Sitting at the base of the range is the regular 2021 Forester. It starts at $24,795 and includes standard features such as Subaru's Starlink infotainment system with a 6.5-inch Multimedia system and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. The base Forester is available with 17-inch aluminum wheels and roof rails for an extra $600.

One step up in the range takes you to the Forester Premium, priced from $27,795. This variant adds things like the All-Weather Package with heated front seats and heated exterior mirrors, 10-way power driver's seat with power lumbar support, 17-inch wheels in black, roof rails, privacy glass, and a panoramic moonroof. For 2021, it includes Keyless Access with Push-Button Start and fog lights as standard.

Next is the Forester Sport starting at $29,935. It adopts a more "youthful and rugged appearance" and is adorned with gloss black trim as well as black 18-inch wheels and a black rear roof spoiler. Those looking for a little more luxury can purchase the 2021 Forester Limited from $31,395 and enjoy bespoke 18-inch wheels, body-colored wing mirrors, and chrome accent trim for the fog lights. It also comes with Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

Topping out the 2021 Forester range is the Touring model priced from $34,895. It receives Subaru's DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System, plus some other upgrades. The 2021 Forester will start landing in dealerships from October.

Note: All the aforementioned prices exclude a destination and delivery fee of $1,050.

This bodes well for the future Impreza. The base Legacy and Forester now get steering responsive LED headlights and the price only went up $400. The Impreza with halogen headlights got a Poor safety rating, while the Limited got a great score. I could see Subaru wanting to remedy that in the future.

Yeah, I think that's the reason, to get better safety ratings. I hate buying cars in 2020 with halogen headlights. It was a major factor in me picking the Si over a Civic hatch.

Yay, for more annoying seat belt reminders - pretty soon your Subaru will just constantly beep at you for some random reason. One review panned the Ascent for that reason - always beeping at you and it wasn't obvious why.

Drive any modern car... they beep at you and/or flash messages at you all the time. My favorite thing to do is to turn off traction control in a Toyota/Lexus product when it's about to go into a low fuel warning - the two messages fight for real estate in the gauge cluster, flashing one then the other in repetition; if the car has nav it then takes over the infotainment and tries to get you to a gas station.

I will admit whenever I'm doing something my car doesn't like, the beep is accompanied by a message in the gauge cluster or a light.
Window down, traction control off, fasten seat belt, etc; it doesn't give just a ding, it gives a ding and something visual, either a light or text (or sometimes all three).

My Civic doesn't do that. I think the worst offender is Subaru, maybe Toyota is bad but haven't owned one. US makers seem bad too, like rental cars.

Like the Civic will give a seatbelt warning for 10 seconds and stop for 30-40 seconds. Our 2012 Subaru just constantly dings - a very loud annoying sound, until you put it on. Don't want to try a newer Subaru.

Can’t you just do the ‘ol hack to turn off the seatbelt ding, where you plug and unplug the seat belt like 20 times in 20 seconds?

I don't blame ya. Halogens in brand new car in 2020? Yuck.

Most definitely. It's one of the things the safety ratings every year are critiquing and including now along with ADAS.

My truck is loaded sans ADAS, Nav, and headlights. The conversion from halogens to full LED's (low beam, high beam, DRL, and fog lights) was like $350. I then drove my truck b2b with the expensive trim which has the low beam LED's. My truck offers better lighting because my high beams and fogs are LED's. The housings are projectors on either model. I marveled at the difference and minimal cost. I was really happy buying the trim that I did. Full LED conversion was cheap, and instead of wired carplay from the factory I have wireless carplay via aftermarket, app based alarm, full audio system, a whole bunch of things and functionality I could not get OEM and I saved thousands of dollars.

These cheap Subarus are a pretty appealing package. They get even more so as an increasing amount of features become standard c

Is that a permanent fix or you gotta do it every time?

I did look into that. The OEM LEDs on a Civic are like $1000.
I do have Carplay but the deck sucks, I might be tempted to replace it at some point with an aftermarket.

Does anyone know more about the Wilderness edition Forester that was shown on the future product slide leaked by AutoGuide?

The difference on the Ridgeline to go from Halogen to LED, is a 4k increase in price to go to that trim. F that.

Go to xenon depot and see if they make LED's for the CIVIC. Mine are indistinguishable from factory + I have LED DRL, high beams and fogs.

this reminds me that the highlander beeps constantly, won't shut off, if you drive with the full hatch, or hatch window, open... so effing annoying. Took home a door a little while back with the hatch open, beeped for the 25 minute ride home. hatch window same thing ... loaded a few 2x4's in and instead of risking scratching up the dash, I just popped them out the rear window (awesome feature of the highlander, btw). But had to listen to that effing warning... wtf?

I had Diode Dynamics LEDs in my halogens, but eventually I found a used set of JDM Crosstrek Limited LED headlights to swap in. OEM headlights are about $950... EACH. Shipped from Japan, these were about $800 for a set. I didn't feel like dealing with the wiring, so I paid Lightwerkz to get it done properly.

The worst part is that Canadian Impreza Sport comes with the LED headlights.

They stopped allowing you to do this on the newer ones.
