Default Should subaru resurrect the baja?

https://www.torquenews.com/1084/new-...-subaru-lineup
Introducing a replacement for the baja is not a bad idea and it could be based of a refreshed ascent or be its own vehicle on the global Platform utilizing the 2.4DIT, symmetrical AWD and the x-mode. Can subaru add a center locking different to symmetrical AWD to better compliment the dual X-MODE. right now the focus is on the launching of the brz, wrx and STI. once that development is finished, a new baja is good vehicle to consider. Honda already has the Ridgeline, Nissan has the frontier, Toyota has the tacoma and Hyundai will soon have the Santa Cruz. not bad benchmarks for development. what are your thoughts

If seriously doing an off-road vehicle, I suppose rid the CVT and put a real gear box and real power. Then possibly compete against other brands like Ford/Jeep for offroading..(?) Not sure, was never into Baja's.. weird looking pickup truck.

For mostly on-roading, they already have the Outback and Forester..

A few of us have said for years, yes. This article is nothing new that Nasioc members haven't said for a long time.

A new Baja should not be built if thats Subarus target.

A unibody, non axle, cvt, no low range, turbo 4, vehicle will have a hard time competing for real off road duty. That's not the point of a Subaru.

If Subaru wants to compete against the Honda pickup and there is enough of a market then sure. I just hope it sells better than the previous go around. This mini off road pick up thing sounds too similar to reasoning behind the last Baja.

This. I was going to respond to his and saw this. THOUGH, I have heard the dealers have been asking for a Jeep "off road" competitor. That doesn't mean anything other than they've been asking. The Ascent was more "demanding" than anything from what I gathered. SO, maybe Subaru could be working on something? I'd lean to it not being a "Baja" replacement; but, I have been asked MANY times to sell mine. I've said the whole time there are only 3 ways my Baja leaves my hands. It literally DIES to where I can't fix it. I am offered the original MSRP for it($26,302) or they bring a proper replacement. But, why would I get rid of it for a new one when I could just keep it and get the new one as well. A new Baja would excite me more than the new STI.

Sounds like yet another vanilla boring vehicle if that's what they want to make.

I've had tons of fun in my Baja. I had TONS of fun in my 58hp '85 Justy GL 4WD. Not sure what you expect out of a car; but, with the current 2.4 and what may possibly be down the line, I am sure I could have fun in said vehicle.

YES but base it on the Ascent cause it pretty much drives like a pickup already Well actually my Chev Colorado rides smoother and quieter

if they use the ascent as the base, then they can stretch the bed out a little more. the ascent is a big vehicle as it is. but using only the third row and cargo area for the bed won't cut it. slightly extend the rear to at least Tacoma size

Sounds like a great idea. Trucks are hot. It'll sell. I haven't really been a fan of the big 5: (Ford, Chevy, Ram, Nissan, Toyota). I coulda liked the Tundra, but my ex-wife bought one. Can't go that route now. Hyundai is coming out with the Santa Cruz soon. Subaru better get on the bandwagon.

I vote yes. Was there a poll?
I will start saving for it immediately if I hear it's coming... gonna have to replace my turbo manual eventually.

I vote yes only IF you can get factory lawn chairs for the back...no baja is right without lawn chairs in the back.

I would totally buy a version with wrx or next gen 2.4 turbo as long as they optioned a manual trans.

Cool car, the best Subaru. Stuffed with electronics, powerful, with a cool interior, easy to operate, with a bunch of electronic assistants. It's nice to own it.

Looks like a competitor to the Honda Ridgeline or the new Hyundai truck. Subaru would have to borrow a traditional auto trans for towing rating. There is no way they would invest in a traditional auto plant with only one model using it unless it was a DCT for the WRX/STI line also and perhaps Acent. They are to vested in CVT tech.

I dont think the above render would have a Baja name. Looks heavy.

The HTCVT in the Ascent has a competitive tow rating. Surely a Baja replacement could too.

If Subaru wanted to enter the fray, the Ascent would be the right way to do it - 4dr only, add a foot of rear overhang and it's about the same length as the Ridgeline.

I just don't see why they would.
