Those are stock replacements. They will have just as many problems as the ones you already have. You need US 2002+ EJ20 coil-packs.

No, but the model years are different elsewhere. Basically any bug eye coil pack will work. 2000+ if Japanese.

Hi. I have a 95 WRX that has had an engine swap and it turns out that it actually now has a legacy engine the one that uses the twin bolt coils. I still have the old engine with the 1 bolt cols and was wondering if I could swap the rocker covers over so I can use 1 bolt coils in the legacy engine. Or do the coils bold in the cylinder heads as well?
I have already modified the 1995 1 bolt coils to fit the legacy engine so Im sure I could do if to the 2002 coils as well I just wanted to know if changing the rocker covers is another option since I have them anyway |

Just a note for anyone looking at their original coilpacks. The back of the coilpack is filled with a clear white resin. If this resin turns black, it usually means the coilpack is no good - even if you can't see any cracks.

Not all of them came from the factory clear like that. Some came black.

Mine were a favour from a friend, but you can buy them online here at a decent price: http://www.grahamgoode.com/subaru/pa...93&item=GGS564
You may even be able to order them locally, the part number is 22433AA330 |

Just ordered a brand new set from Subaru today. I should have them in about 4 days. I'll let you know how my hesitation and power loss works out.

So the new coils are in and the misfire issues at idle are gone. The car is more responsive, but the car is still sometimes feeling like it has no power when you go wide open. The car is building full boost quick as usual. Its almost like the car isn't using the boost if that makes any sense.

So even with building full boost like normal it could be a boost leak hmmm........I wonder if it could be the recirc valve?

Sniper
Whats the latest on this? Sort out your issues? What part number did you use to order them here in canada? Or did you get the UK versions? I am running 93 jdm wrx here in vancouver. Some of the same problems, knocking sound at full boost, hard starts when warm, etc. cheers |

I will have to look up the part number again. Basically any USDM 02+ WRX coils will work. One of the benefits to ordering new is that there have been several updates to the coils in the past few year. If you go into a dealer just get them to look up the latest coil for a 02 WRX.
I think I got it figured. The car came with some NGK platinum one step colder so #7's. I replaced these with NGK Lasers at the stock heat range #6's. This caused lots more misfires at idle. When I did the coil conversion it helped, but there was still a problem. I changed back to the plugs that came with the car and it was way better. Today I said screw it and got a set of Copper NGK BKR7E's because I was still seeing some misfires at idle. After the change to the cheap coopers the car is running amazing. I think my issues were both the coils and the plugs. I think it is weird that I need to run colder plugs to not have misfires at idle could this mean that my ECU is tuned from Japan? or is it possible I have another issue going on? Cheers |

Well another update problem is not fixed. Power loss was gone for about a day and now intermittent power loss is back. Time to burn it.

Well, I'm glad at least we're all in the same boat, I seem to have it the worst with the power loss issue but we're all experiencing the same misfires / power loss / unused boost (yeah, really weird) / relay click.
first one to solve it gets a cookie :P |

So it works for some people and some it doesn't ?
Anyway, can I use these? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=170306922175 This is what I am looking for right? + I do not have the Ej20G from an Impreza but from a (JDMyo)Legacy. Does this matter? From what I have seen there is a slight difference with the coils. In the Impreza(this i have only seen on ebay) there is only 1 bolt that goes in the coil(to keep it in place) but on mine there are 2. My country is broke and so am I so I am really concerned for buying the wrong coil. Last edited by olig; 03-04-2009 at 07:45 AM. |

I would say the conversion works for everybody. However some people have other issues that they suspect are ignition related, but turn out to be something else. I have been running strong ever since I first posted this conversion, and now I'm up to around 320chp with no hint of ignition trouble. Since you have the Legacy motor, you will have to modify the new age coils a bit to fit the cam cover. Someone posted a really good detailed description of what to do (thought it was earlier in this thread). If you cant find it, I'll see if I can repost as I think I save the pictures. -Rob |
