For example, with the 18+ 6 piston Brembo, the calipers sits further out because of the larger disc, so if you have a wheel design that offers more spoke clearance the closer you are to the barrel, then it should clear. Such is the case with the stock pre-18 and 18+ wheels. The 18+ cars can fit the 18" stock wheels because the wheels offers more room as the spokes extends outward. However, in case of the pre-18's 4 piston Brembo, due to the smaller disc thus the caliper sitting closer to the center, due to the spoke design, it will rub against the spokes even know that it is actually a larger wheel (19").

Hope this helps and does not confuse you even more.
This makes sense.. So if I understand correctly, the rotor offset and caliper width is the same (same poke) but the spoke clearance is needed closer to the barrel of the wheel due to the larger rotor.

Anyone know if 08-17 STI rear calipers and 2018+ STI Rear calipers interchange? I know the rotors are 1cm larger on the 2018 but are the rotor offsets the same and are the caliper mounting locations the same?

Thanks!

Default 17" Method MR503 w/215/55-17

I was on the youtube and came across this video of a guy running 17" Method MR503 w/215/55-17 tire on a 2020 STI, which cleared the 6 Pot Brembos. This would be a great winter set up, however I don't live in a place that's gets snow, but this size interests me as it would be great for dirt roads and paved roads that aren't kept up. What are some of the negatives of running that much sidewall on a 2018+ STI?

Likely softer turn-in and less steering precision at higher lateral g's on pavement. Things that don't much matter on loose or very rough surfaces.

Has anyone ran a 245/40R19 on the 2019+ STI stock wheels? Wondering if they will rub...need options for a winter tire and nothing really in a 35....

You might want to look at tires in 225/40-19. They're OK'ed for fitment out to 9" wide, so they'd be fine on the OE 8.5" wide wheels. Load rating is comparable to the OE 245/35-19, though to be picky you should probably bump both front and rear tire inflation pressures up by 1 psi (33/32 ==> 34/33). They're only about 0.3" taller than the OE size, so they won't even look much different looking at the car in side view.

Do the OZ Racing ALLEGGERITA HLT 18x8.5 fit for the 2018?

My local rims place is saying they won't, I'm trying to find image based proof that they do.. I could have sworn when I researched this 6 months ago that I found posts or info that they do fit?

Yes, the ALLEGGERITA HLT in 18x8.5 +55mm is confirmed as fititng by a few different online sources.

I don't have photo proof, but I can't say I've ever seen Tire Rack be wrong on fitment.

This ^^^

Tire Rack (and most other vendors) tend to play a rather careful game when it comes to wheel width and tire size fitments. I can't say as I blame them - they're a business that would get hurt directly by any returns due to products not fitting and indirectly by internet word-of-keyboard. Hence the "safe" recommendations.

Oakos or Dan at Mach V, the 18x9.5 +38 RPF1, do they clear the brakes? I have seen some people say spacer is needed on the front 3mm or 5mm, then others have said they fit with no problems.

I'm in Spain currently. Even decent wheel places here have little to zero experience with the STI or the WRX. They're as rare as Lamborghini's over here.

The 18x9.5" +38mm still does not clear the 6pots in the front, but less of a spacer is required.

A 3mm works, but is very tight so we recommend 5mm.

If you want something that clears with no spacer I recommend considering the 18x10 +38mm

Planning to do TE37 Ultra 19x8.5 +35 with factory size tire 245/35/19 set-up on my 2018 STi with factory suspension. Am I going to have any issues?

265/35-19, make that 2 mph @ 80.

I wouldn't assume that your speedometer is any more accurate than that to begin with, let alone retain the same degree of accuracy as tread depth is worn away.

Norm quick question what is the best tires size 255/35 or 265/35 for 18x9.5+45 ?

Thank you so much

So, I ended up with a 2020 STI; any chance these, from my Evo, will fit?

https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...3&autoModClar=

The TireRack page is confusing, but basically: FlowOne, F2, 18x8.5, 30mm. They're in storage right now so I cannot easily toss them on the car; I'm guessing "no, they will not fit", but figured I'd ask before doing the hassle of getting them out :P

All else equal (rarely the case, but which you sometimes have to assume is), the 255 would probably provide slightly 'crisper' handling and the 265 would probably ride a little less firmly. My guess - it's likely to require the driver to be sensitive to such things to notice the differences between one size and the next one up.

Even appearance-wise there's not going to be any big differences.

One thing I can think of - and which could end up being the strongest influence on your decision - would be if you've lowered your car, if you ever plan to, and if so by how much. In the case where more than truly minimal lowering is concerned, the 255 would be the safer choice (truly minimal lowering to me means roughly half an inch, and a whole inch is too much).

Those combinations might work, just that I'm not the guy to guarantee that either of them will. Coilovers adds another variable - body diameter and spring seat location might dictate the use of smaller positive offsets than you can get away with using when you're on OE-style shocks/struts.

My own personal experience with lowering - off and on since the 1970's - has been with lowering amounts of an inch or less, with exactly one exception. That one time ended up with me taking about half of the lowering back out with DIY-fabbed spacers above the upper strut mounts (not a Subie). These days, I'm happier at a half inch for reasons involving suspension geometry and a preference for keeping the wheels and tires more closely centered in the wheelwell openings. My occasional road course toy is only lowered half an inch in the front, and the rear lowering has been reset from about 5/8" lower than stock up to about 1/4" lower.

How accurate is Rays wheels big caliper fitment guide posted on their site?

If it’s marked to clear the STI 6pot, will it actually clear? Or is that 50:50 chance of fitment?

I was looking into getting 57CR’s with a hassle free fitment 18x8.5 +50, or TE37 18x9 +45, but not too sure they will fit the STI 6pot brembos.

Thanks!
