Kind of curious as well, not looking to gain power, just to make it safe on crap gas. Have spoken with them and they are pretty responsive and helpful. Sadly he won't tune it for me lol.

Not really, if you went to most ECU manufacturers they won't tune generally retailers do the tuning

At least 220 kw - RPM kills rods too, so that would be at a safe RPM (7000)

I'm in Far North Queensland - a bit far away check Rexnet on Facebook should be able to find someone in Melb that knows what they're doing

Sorry for the slow reply. I am maybe 30 minutes from them. They were awesome on the phone, but they are too busy to mess with one car. They did give me some suggestions on where to go that were helpful, and they are going to help me with a program for a VAT exemption that saves me the crazy sales tax over here. He in no way has been the slightest bit shady, just a busy dude.

I posted the following in another thread that we were both involved with, but it might bear repeating...

On the other hand, I've read nothing but good things about RobTune... so I'm hoping he eventually develops something for the EJ20K.

If you're an EJ20K owner, it probably wouldn't hurt to let Rob know that you'd love to have him develop a tune for us.
Send Rob a message. Let him know there is support for his efforts! [EDIT] I visited Rob's website today, and at first couldn't find/remember where to log in to post. Turns out it's at the very bottom of the page (in a blue box).

Thanks for the reply Vancouver. ...tried going into your account to see the thread but couldn't find it.... but I do remember reading it some time ago ....rob tune is just a flash file with preset values set into the ecu...esl is far more then that it's a full standalone ecu ....lol at the people saying a rob tune is more better then a esl board.... thanks again for the reply ....oh and I messaged Andy and apparently u can install a 3 port ebcs and piss off our crappie 2 port ecbs.......NOW THAT'S amazing

I'm aware of the difference. From all reports, RobTune is a huge improvement over the factory ECU tables in regards to making the best use of the fuel available to those of us in North America. The fact that it is simpler to implement and much less expensive than going the ESL route probably does make it "better" for some people's needs.

Read the thread that vancouver98STi sent and it seems like the tuner was bad.
I am going on a good 1500+ miles on my ESL tuned at a place called Zen in the UK (like 1 mile down the road from ESL) and have had a GREAT experience with this. I sadly needed tuned for lower octane but went with quite a bit more boost. The starting stock tune had a lot of detonation from 6k RPMs up, and while a little may help the tuner completely removed it all to make a safe tune. The car is less high strung, way smoother and where I used to hit a wall at about 6500 RPM I now have a steady pull all the way to red line. It was really cost effective, all together it was under $600 but I didn't have to pay import or VAT on the unit so it saved me 20%. Very happy, now on to a fuel pump and injectors to squeeze a little more out of her.
