Anchor Subaru in N. Smithfield, RI
This is my first post here at NASIOC, so I thought I'd share my great buying experience at Anchor in Rhode Island.
I am extremely pleased with the way this dealer treated me. Seeing as how it was the end of the month, I basically sent 6 email offers to various dealers to see who would jump on my admitted low-ball offer of $21,500 for a 04 WRX with no options. Like many people here, I wanted a WRX when they were still a gleam in our American eyes’. With a $750 rebate and 3.9% financing for 60 months on the table, I thought I’d try my luck. After about 3 emails telling me that the offer was WAY too low, I got a call from Bryan, the sales manager/owner. After some conversation, he met my offer. I went in, drove the Silver WRX, of course loved it, and decided to pursue it. The next day I called to inform Anchor that I could no longer do the deal because after I left the dealer I found myself at the local Ford dealer buying my wife a new Ford Escape. I no longer had her old car to use to pay the sales tax, as well as a few grand less cash now lying around after paying the down payment on the Ford. Luckily for me, they asked me to bring my 02 VW GTI 1.8T in to evaluate for trade. After evaluation, and some deliberation on my part, they took my car in on trade, paid my loan and put me into the WRX for a lower APR (3.9 for 60 vs. 5.9 for 60) than my GTI and gave me my original offer price which basically kept me at the same monthly on my GTI. The part that I loved was through all of this; I was treated better than any other dealer has ever treated me in my 10 years of car buying. I basically dealt with the sales managers through the entire process, which led into conversation about how Subaru is trying to "buy" young, affluent customers and build loyalty for their brand. My response was "after the way you treated me, I'll be back in 5 years when I have my first kid for a Forester or Legacy Wagon." I meant that. If I had my way, instead of the Escape my wife would have a new Forester in the driveway. So, the long and short of this is Anchor Subaru in N. Smithfield on Route 146 is a great dealer. Bryan, Cliff, and Frank couldn’t have been any easier to work with, let alone more accommodating to my wants. Obviously I have yet to deal with any service issues, but I have confidence that any follow-up trips will be as great as my first experience at Anchor.

I just bought my WRX at Anchor on Saturday and saw the first post on their board. I was extremely pleased with the bottom line price that they gave me. It was way below Pilgrim. Let's see how their service dept. works!!

I agree - Achor seems to have good guys...
I was down at Anchor recently looking to do a deal on a WRX -> STi upgrade. Long story short, ended up not wanting to do the upgrade right now. But that's just the intro.
Cliff and Frank were the most up front dealers I have ever talked to. No trying to pressure me into a car I didn't want (I was looking for a 04, not an 05). No trying to play games with numbers, just good honest dealing. They offered a very good price on the STi, and were very patient while I talked it over with my wife. No pressure tactics at all. They even offered to match my low finance rate. The showroom was clean and all the dealers had flat panel monitors on the desks. Pretty slick setup. I didn't get a chance to deal with parts or service, but if you are tired of going to dealers who give you the creeps, check these guys out if you are in the area. I'll be going back when the time is finally right. |

Just wanted to add my excellent experience at Anchor Subaru.
I had emailed several dealers in my area for pricing on a crystal gray metallic STi with a bunch of options (gauge pack, short throw shifter, fog lamps, auto-dimming mirror, security upgrade, etc). I am in NY by the way. I then requested an online quote from Anchor. They beat the best local price quote I had gotten by $900. Cliff was very helpful, courteous, professional, and very patient with my hundred call-backs with questions. If Cliff wasn't in, Brian and/or Jim were able to assist me with no problems. They were great throughout the entire process and I had never set foot in the dealership until the day I picked the car up (today!). Everything was ready and as expected. Cliff and Jim went over everything with me, made sure I understood everything, and ensured I had all of the copies of my paperwork. All in all, I was VERY pleased and highly recommend them. Thanks again guys! -Steve |

Hey Cliff, How bout sharing some of your buisness attitude with some of the other dealers around the country. Some of them could use a little of the integrity I keep hearing about over there. (I'm in Washington) |

I'd also like to recommend Anchor Subaru. I just bought a black 2005 STI and was very pleased with the service and price. The only difficulty I had was in hard choice of either a blue or black STI.

Cliff, could you e-mail me or send me a private message? I'm interested in getting an '05 Forester XT, but I'm currently financing a 2005 Mini Cooper S with the John Cooper Works pkg. I need to know how to get into the Forester for around the same money per month, if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Please see my other response but I dealt with Ali at Anchor and had another great experience. He's up-front honest guy that didn't pressure me in the least bit. Got me a great deal on my trade-in and was patient when I wasn't able to pick-up my car for a while (due to the holidays). Overall another great experience there.

How is the service department? Leaving the dealer I got my wife's 15 Forrester xt, and my 09 sti after a horrible experience with my sti shortly after purchase. Both cars have a extended warranty.
I have long, Patrick and anchor within 15 minutes of me. |

I know that this is basically a dead thread, but I wanted to add my two cents about Anchor. I used to love them when they were a small little operation (as far as their premises were concerned) -- but my last visit put me off them completely. Long story short: brought my 2011 Impreza Outback Sport in for the airbag recall. Left with a “complimentary condition checklist” (or something like that) with all items green. 30 minutes later I’m smelling smoke and open the hood to find my oil pan basically dry.
I’m NOT accusing them of causing the problem, but they DEFINITELY didn’t check the dipstick or they wouldn’t have marked the oil “pass” (or whatever the highest, green, rating was). I had a windshield sticker from an oil change 2 months previous, so I guess they just took a look at that and said “oh, the oil’s fine.” My family’s bought 5-6 cars from them in the past, but I certainly won’t be back, and I’m sorry to say that I can’t recommend them at all. BTW, I guarantee that you won’t find MY comment card on their bulletin board. |
