Default brake pads for track days? DTC60 or HT10?

Hi guys,

I have a 2017 WRX STI. stock calipers with stoptech drilled rotors, stoptech brake line and motul 660 brake fluid.

After 2 track days, I need new brake pads now. looking for some recommendations from you guys.

As a beginner, my technician recommend me to have a pair of more aggressive pads at front. So I'm planning to put hawk DTC-60/HT-10 at front, DTC-30 at rear. Or DTC-30 at front, hp+ at rear.

However, I searched online and it seems that there's NO dtc-30 for VA STI?

So what if I put DTC-60/HT-10 at front and hp+ at rear? Or what if I put Dtc-70 at front and dtc-60 at rear?

Also, what do you think about DTC-60 and HT-10? which would u pick?

Take a good look at G-loc pads through knsbrakes, give them a call.

G-loc pads are far less abrasive than comparably-intended Hawk pads above HPS. And G-loc will make up pads that they may not yet currently keep in stock, so there's that.

In any event, HP+ doesn't look to be well paired with DTC60s up front, having a friction coefficient in the 0.50 - 0.55 range against 0.70 - 0.77 range for the 60 (and a much lower max temperature than the 60).

Currently using Ferodo 3.12S(F) and Raybesto ST45(R).

I gotta be a little careful when the tires are cold because I can lock up everything up easy, but after everything warms up I'm gravy.

Not sure what tires you are using, but you'll need to choose wisely. Over pad your brakes, and you just lock your tires all day long.

Been there, too. Found out that at 40°F, even track pads will warm up faster than summer tires. Enough faster that the tire was noticeably lazy about spinning back up to speed once the ABS got interested in what was happening.

I've ran a variety of Pagid Racing pads and highly suggest them if they are in your budget. Pagid RS42 would suite you well as a beginner. I currently run RS19 front and rear

I've heard G-Loc pads aren't bad either but have no personal experience with the

Also, I'd ditch those drilled rotors and get some DBA slotted or stoptech/centric blanks are fine as well.

So my subjective review of some pads is by viewing rotors at HPDE events and kinda watching how deep I can go versus some of them with the pads you are considering.
1st observation - those pads appear to have aggressive wear patterns on the rotors
2nd is I've observed more cracked rotor complaints from users.

What I use on my GD is stock blanks or Centric rotors with Raybestos ST47 pads on the front and Ferodo 2500/3000 on the rears. I've previously been a fan of Performance Friction pads but a couple of years ago got a great deal on the Raybestos track pads and bought multiple sets that I have yet to use. (less than $90 set shipped)

If I were buying now I would seriously consider GLoc pads.
Ken at KNS Brakes or Eaton Motorsports will be my sources.

BTW: Track Subies Group on the book of faces is a great source for competition Subaru related information from racers around the world.
