Default Help Me Find the Owner so I can Buy This

I have left notes on the door and knocked on the door with no answer. As far as I can tell the car hasnt moved. It is in Jacksboro, TX on the way to our family's ranch. Anyone know the owner or have advice on buying a car not for sale? I know it's a long shot since Jacksboro is not a hot spot for anything.

I havent been on here in about forever, so here is trying to make an image work in 2018. ** it looks like you have to be a fancy NASIOC person to upload pictures the old school way. BRB

Just go ask if they'd be willing to sell it.

That car has been there for several years. I used to drive through the area as far back as 2012ish and always thought about it....

Not sure if it gets driven or not though, hard to tell. Looks like a nice one, or a good swap candidate

Just drove by that thing yesterday. Looks like it is still in the same spot as the your picture. No FS sign or anything on it.

Assuming it has low mileage as it hasn't moved - and its in good running condition - what would one of these sell for?

People list them anywhere from $4500-$10,000. I have typically seen them sell for $5000-$6000 in good shape. I think it's absurd, seeing as I bought a rust free one for $2000.

Did the owner ever reply to your notes? Sorry, this intrigued me.

Drove by it again this weekend, still looks like it has remained in the same spot for the past 5 years or so...

That's been there for at least 8 years, you can use the Jack County Tax Appraisal District to find the property owner from the address. That's assuming it's not rent house...

Very interesting thread here.

I have a bit of advice for what it's worth. About 15 years ago I bought a car out of someone's yard for the first time ever. I've bought 2 others since and the experiences weren't a lot different than the first.

What I can tell you is to try to go over there around the late afternoon (sort of between 'just after work' and supper time), and just ring the door bell or knock on the door. Make sure you are very approachable in your demeanor. What I mean by that is don't stand too close to the door, dress decently, and talk gently and earnestly. The usual honest stranger's courtesies.

Just spill the honest truth out to them once you have their attention. The car that I bought (an older Nissan 240SX) had been sitting there watching me drive by for a couple years before I finally decided to go have a look. I finally went over, knocked on the door, introduced myself and told the man that I'd been driving by his car for a couple years, and it hadn't moved and that it looked like a fun project, and that I was interested. He was a bit cautious at first, but when he realized that I was really interested in the car, he gave me lots of details on it and was happy to listen to an offer.

That car didn't run, but had a clean title, was a 5 speed, and the interior had been protected well, and was mint. It had failed inspection because of an exhaust leak, and they hadn't bothered to fix it since they had another car, and so it sat there for about 5 or 6 years until I came by. I drained the tank, purged the fuel lines and injectors, did a quick tune up (plugs and that sort of thing), and it fired up. I bought that car for $600.

Looks like you could have found yourself a nice little ride. I don't live too far from where it's at, so if you decide not to pick it up, let me know because I wouldn't mind taking the trip out there to check it out myself.

If I can be of any more help trying to scoop it up, let me know. I'm happy to do what I can.

Someone approached me about buying my race car... had an interesting story and laughable lowball offer. I recommend having funds readily available in case you do get the owner's interest to close the deal same day.

For the love of god don’t lowball him. I have an rs and get offers all the time for it. Most people laugh when I except more than 4K for a clean rust free optioned out low mileage stock rs with service records. If it’s just sitting there he’s obviously not trying hard to sell it, be nice, give a fair price and shake his hand.

That car clearly shows questionable panel seams and has been sitting outside for numerous years. This example certainly does not command top dollar.

No responses still. I did try the CAD database, but no dice there either.

I keep eyeballing the Series.Gray that is sitting at Brandon Tomes. I had kind of decided to keep my current car and look again when I give it away to my daughter in 2 years when she's 16. But... then I went to Huffines Pre Grand Opening party yesterday and all kinds of interest was re-sparked and my son (3 y/o) wanted to take an STI home (Video Below).

I bought this car today. Story goes, he blew the head gasket 5ish years ago and parked it. He planned of fixing it but never did. He is the original owner and has all the records including the original window sticker. Unfortunately all those yes in the sun were not nice to the car. I will have to do a complete restoration on it.

Stop and ask. Ya never know. The owner of this car told me people would stop all the time and ask to buy it. He wanted to fix it, but as the years went by he must have realized it wasn’t going to happen. I guess I caught him on the right day, also he remembered turning me away 2yrs ago when I asked. When he said a price I didn’t even bother to haggle. It was fair and I finally got him to say yes. Best part, damn thing started first try, drove that sucker up onto the trailer. Head gaskets, paint, and a lot of cleaning inside and it will be back on the road.
