Default Beware GCH Long Block Racing

Waited to post this until everything was settled, well now it is and the short of the long, I was told to piss off by the offer they gave.

Bought a built 2.5L Subaru long block with timing set. I put around 10k miles and 1 year on it before it started knocking. Now that I am having issues with the engine they won't return emails, calls, or messages. I am now finding out their engines are complete garbage from other people who have had them and they blew up. Stay away from Have Lopez and GCH Long Block Racing and save your money.

Update 14 Jan 2020: I have since been able to get in contact with them and working on a solution to have both parties come out happy.

Update 18 Feb 2020: against their recommendation I took my car to a local performance shop to get it diagnosed, they recommended me to pull the engine and send it cross country and leave a shell in my driveway so I get evicted. The engine had faulty assembly and slipped a wrist pin out of the piston. Their best offer for if it needed to be rebuilt was, I pay parts and they cover labor, but when even the block is shot that doesn't save any money. I recommend staying away from this shady company, a reputable company will not use a Gmail email address, and go with someone with build quality and a better warranty, or someone with a warranty to begin with. They are so after money here that they don't care about customers and the hoops customers have to jump through to get help from them, or consequences of what they have to go through, I will not get evicted for pulling an engine in my driveway for them.

Sorry to hear, I've heard of this many times. I'll indulge with how I see it; even on my brokest day I would rather rebuild it myself. If I didn't have the time or extra cash to pay outright I'd explore options to finance an engine, Via: crawford, tomei, or IAG, in that order. If we'd research (we owe it to ourselves) and not let our pockets guide us to these end results the world would be a better place for it; our engines would have a better reputation because of it. Questionable guys like them would not exist.

I hope the resolution is in your favor. Best of luck.

Hey man, I too have a built short block from
GCH. I’m right around the 10,000 miles Mark and just recently started hearing a slight knock among other things... any advice on how to go about fixing this would be extremely helpful.

I had a long block from them and it started knocking, took it to a shop and they showed me the wrist pin falling out. Maybe get a borescope and look in the plugs to see if it is the same issue.

It will be tons better than GCH. The garbage they offered me to "make it right" isn't worth the time of day it took to read. It is going down to dirty racing products when I have the money pulled together in a month or so.

Default Glad I saw this.

There prices seem too good to be true. I'm in Socal and was seriously considering them. I am thinking of learning and doing the rebuild with my dad ourselves and buying all reputable products.

It sucks there are companies like this...

I have torn down GCH long blocks. The most recent that I can recall off the top of my head:

D25 head on one side
B25 head on the other side
cam caps that were not correct to the casting
deck surfaces looked like someone took a belt sander to them
RTV on both sides of the head gaskets
I know there's more, a ton more on this one, but I'd have to go and check the notes on the teardown, and frankly don't feel like digging through my paperwork right now.

In the past few days I have also had a discussion with a guy who bought a GCH long block. He pulled the valve covers to inspect something, and found a full set of guides just chilling in there loose.

For those of you looking I know their prices seem appealing, but you'll just be wasting your money on what is complete and utter garbage.

Quite honestly, I'm amazed GCH is still in business, and quite frankly they shouldn't be doing any engine work whatsoever no matter how cheap they are.

Awesome, thanks for all this. I cant imagine spending the money and having issues like that. Where as the IAG block is more but you get the warranty and from what I have read very reliable builds. That is the route I will be taking!

Thanks for the info.

I realize that this is an old thread, but thought this little gem would be useful to the community. It looks like Gabe (an employee at GCH) attempted to make a fraudalent review of his own Company, and was caught.

I cannot say for sure that this Gabe is the same Gabe that works at GCH, but Gabe's last name is Lopez, and the reviewers last initial was 'L'. The review was also taken down by the BBB for violating their terms of service...

Link to BBB reviews, scroll to the end on last page.
