Default Singer Subaru Plaistow, NH

The Sales person didn't know squat, lied right to my face. I had done a ton of shopping and internet research. After said lie i pulled out my info, much to his dismay and when he realized i wasn't the dunce he thought he brought in the owner, who was also a knucklehead. Pure guilt and pressure tactics. So I bought from AMD, what a pleasure. They continued to call till i told them i bought and then the sales rep berated me and then the owner got on. Man i felt damn near threatened, like there were going to come by and throw a brick thru the window of my new one as they know where i live.

my advice to you, there are far too many subie dealers in this neck of the woods to screw with anyone. All dealers should be jumping around that someone is in their dealership. I had half a mind to write soa a letter but really didn't have the energy.

my two cents.

what did they lie about? If it was money i would not be happy, but if it's about features and options that's not surprising. To get the owner on the phone after purchasing elsewhere something a little more than window shopping must have went on. I would like to hear their side of the story before passing judgement.

I actually purchase all of my parts at singer and had them replace my radiator under warrantee.

hey man, feel free to pass judgement or not. I'm a Proj. manager for a financial firm and all i do is deal with customers. Customer service is of utmost importance b/c my customers can easily go elsewhere instead of sticking with me. That's the same for subie dealers in newengland. There are way too many of them in this area for some knucklehead dealer and his poorly behaved lacky to pull a guilt/force/harass sale. When a buyer walks in and is ready to purchase, has done his homework, is very polite, and holding a lot of research you would think they'd put 2 + 2 together and understand that maybe they should just be nice, move a unit and wait for an uneducated chump that's easily pushable to come in so they can work that routine on them.

It was essentially money but also the unit. they were ambigious about various things when other dealers had no problem being straight forward. Considering the info available on the web, that sort of bs doesn't fly with me. I figured they'd have shaped up once they saw me pull out a stack of papers and research. No such luck.
Even when they finally agreed to the price, i had already bought at this point. i still wouldn't have gone back b/c there antics stunk, and if the socalled owner was willing to pull that nonsense then how or where could i elevate a true problem should it arise, warranty or otherwise. No thanks.

I never had an issue with their parts dept and there is a cute chick in service. However i no longer buy filters there for my imprez. However make a trip to NHampton, AMD or manchester Sub and talk to those people the vibe you get is remarkably warm and forthcoming.

Default Singer Subaru defends itself!

Hi Blatant and other Subaru fans!
My name is Aaron Singer and I'm the owner of Singer Subaru! I really don't remember talking to you, but I should probably defend myself and my dealership!!!! By the way, anyone wishing to talk with me directly, feel free to stop by or call: 603-382-7101. I'm EXTREMELY PROUD of our staff and our accomplishments at Singer Subaru---PARTICULARLY in the area of CUSTOMER SATISFACTION!!!! We all try as hard as we can to be real people talking with customers and exude no attitudes or atmosphere of pressure. If you feel that you experienced that in MY DEALERSHIP, then I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE!!!! That being said, you can't imagine how hard it is to be an auto dealer when the occasional "wise guy" wants to prove how smart or informed he is! Obviously, most customers are nice and are not like that, but when one of those comes in, I'd challenge ANYBODY to walk away with a cool head. In the past year, I personally have had 3 or 4 of those experiences---not bad considering that we see approximately 300 to 500 SALES customers per month and I TRY to meet or talk to as many as I can!!! I hope that you were not one of them, but that we just had a "misunderstanding!" The other difficult position we find ourselves in is when a customer has been "low-balled" by another dealer, or they actually decide to "low-ball" us themselves in order to get what they think must be the availability of a DRAMATICALLY lower price. This is easily the HARDEST CONVERSATION we ever have in auto sales. Over my 25 year career, most of my "spirited disagreements"---(of which I've had VERY FEW!) have been the result of this negotiation technique. I train my entire staff to take the "it's cool, man" approach and not let any aggressive people get to us, and overall we do MUCH BETTER than most dealerships, but, alas, we are all ONLY HUMAN, and can let it get to us occasionally!!!!
More about SINGER SUBARU:
Since I bought the dealership almost 3 years ago, We have maintained ONE OF THE HIGHEST CSI SCORES for SUBARU DEALERSHIPS in NEW ENGLAND--in BOTH SALES AND SERVICE!!!! Subaru of America keeps a VERY CLOSE EYE on this, and we have WON THE STELLAR PERFORMER AWARD in BOTH 2004 and 2005 and have it "in the bag" for 2006!!!! As a reality check, ONLY 13 OF THE 65 SUBARU dealerships in NEW ENGLAND won this award last year and WE WERE ONE!!! (Unfortunately, the other Subaru Dealership you mentioned wasn't and isn't (as of today) ANYWHERE CLOSE!!!!!
We also won the Subaru of New England PRESIDENT'S CLUB Award in 2005 for sales EXCELLENCE!!!! If you've been inside the dealership, undoubtedly you've seen some of the awards, plaques and telegrams that Subaru has sent us!!!! We also have DOZENS AND DOZENS of Customer letters and testimonials!!!!
Having read some other "threads," I'd like to point out that I have FREQUENTLY gone to bat for my good customers and gotten "gray area" warranty claims handled. This is something that only a handful of dealers even ATTEMPT, but I am VERY GOOD at this!!! That being said, I can't get blatantly bad claims through, and certainly one of the most difficult situations in SUBARU WORLD (all over the country) is the damage to what otherwise would have been warranty parts as caused by AFTERMARKET MODIFICATIONS!!! (particulary to WRX's and STI's!) I'm bringing this up, because we at SINGER SUBARU are very proud of our record of helping customers determine the difference between acceptable mod's and those that run the risk of VOIDING YOUR WARRANTY! If you or any of your fellow NASIOC members would like help with this, we would be HAPPY TO HELP!!! The key to getting the manufacturer (any manufacturer) to pay "gray area" warranty claims is to have complete service records (preferably done at the selling dealer) and have only acceptable mods on your car. You would truly be SHOCKED if you knew what I could get done with this in hand!!!!
Sorry for rambling so much, but I'm obviously VERY PROUD of SINGER SUBARU!!!!!
I can't imagine what could have happened when you came in to buy FLOOR MATS?!?!?!?!? I'd really like to know, but I guarantee to you and all those reading this that SINGER SUBARU has one of the friendliest CUSTOMER ENVIRONMENTS on the PLANET!!!! If ANYONE has HARD EVIDENCE to the CONTRARY, then I PLEDGE TO CHANGE THE PROBLEM NOW!!!!!!
Please contact me at your earliest convenience.
Thank you for the privilege of talking in this forum.

Sincerely,
Aaron M. Singer

Mr. Singer, I appreciate the effort expended by you here to deend your dealership's reputation. That being said, your comment about "wise guys" who come into your dealership smart or informed, sounds like you expect your customers to just roll over and play dead when it comes time to sign the dotted line. I truly hope that is not the case. In this information age we live in, consumers who are willing to put forth the effort can do all the necessary research when to learn MSRP, actual invoice price, etc. when it comes time to buy a car. Unscrupulous dealers, by no means accusing you of being one, need to realize the salad days of the uninformed customer are over, and that they had better sharpen their pencils and give an honest deal to their customers.

It is the age of information and that was the primary issue at singer. I had a ton of it and they didn't like the fact that i wasn't a push over, at least that's the feeling I got. Anyway the legacy i bought at AMD i since traded in and bought a wrx at manchester. As soon as i find a dealer i'm comfortable with i'll stick with them. As for singer sub, maybe i hit it on an off day but i buy a new car once a year and it's been subies for the last 10 years....go visit singer yourself, and make an informed decision when you're buying next. I'm not implying wasting their time or any other dealers for that matter. Im sure they are busy. The multitude of dealers in the area allows for the best deals. I guess what chapped me the most was not the fact that what they told me didn't jive with the subie web / kbb / nada / etc etc internet info but the fact that they kept needling me when i clearly explained the situation and clearly showed them that i had correct info contrary to what i was being told. As a sales person they should've recognized the fact that i was highly informed and adjusted their sales technique/tactic for a fit to my situation at hand. It was as if they didn't even really hear what i was saying. They had the unit right there, ready to go, the wife was sitting in the 4runner ready to follow me home...

I will say i bought a couple things from singers parts dept the other day and had a very pleasant experience. fwiw.

you know, it's something like a dissatisfied customer tells something like 5-8 people per mth, compounded, etc and the last post i had in here was in November and nothing since. I figured that the dealership, singer that is, which most likely fumbled upon this post by chance or someone keying them onto it would've stepped up to the plate and monitored it and made a concerted effort to dispell all the bulls*hit. As subie buyers are pretty much all educated and research and when they see something negative they almost always note it........nothing.

I love capitalism and the aloofness and indifference of merchants.

Default Dear Mr Singer

My wife and I go shopping for a Subaru. We go to Singer becuase they have a few cars on their web site we were interested in. I had read this post before I went there, but kept an open mind.
Everything was going good, no complaints. Salesman was overly friendly if anything. We got in to pricing on the car and we were a few dollars off. We where on a budget and we where being firm with it.
Now, I am not going to tell you I was upset becuase we couldn't agree on a price for this car, but more of what happened. The salesman calls me up the day after we left the dealership and asks me where we were in price, I told him we went up a little for yesterday. Blah blah.. We were still some what off on price. So he says he is going to see what he can do for me and call me back. He hangs up with me and calls my wife and starts trying to sell her at the price we discussed the day we looked at the car, which was too high for us. This made me real mad, and my wife was uncomfortable with it too. A very low sales move.
Later that night, the sales manager calls me to further discuss price, and I dropped all the info and research I had on the car. . I understand a dealship can't lose money on a car, and if it is out of our range tell me and we can move on. I asked for proof of what they paid for it, and I was going to make a offer based on that. She tells me she is going to look into it and get back to me.
Two days later and I never heard back from either of them!
Bottom line, I knew too much and I wasn't an easy sale so they didnt want to bother with me. Its too bad, they had a bunch of nice cars too.
So Mr Singer, I ask you to defend this posting as well!
I strongly reccommend Concord, Exeter and Belknap! Great sales help. The guy in Cocord straight out told me he couldn't met our buget (for a specific car), I appreciate that.

Yes the salesman that helped me didnt know his stuff mechanically speaking. I pointed at a part behind the right hand headlight and he tells me that's where they moved the turbo for the 06 wrx!!!! I too was kinda hassled over the phone about me making da decision to go with another dealer. After telling him that they gave me a better offer he started talking about why I wasted his time etc. Not too cool if I may say so

Make no mistake about my case, mechanically I can't speak from that point. I can just tell you that their sales tactics and ethical practices are not professional.

seems like they still haven't gotten it. Can you imagine how many people read these forums, and we know people like to carry on a bi tch when things aren't right. I think alot of subaru buyers are informed buyers, moreso than the norm since subaru's are inherently more pricey. So this is really going to go against singers paradigm of screwing the customer and their strongarm, call you 15 times (even after you told them you bought one elsewhere) tactics. They did too, I actually told the sales guy that i actually bought else where, and this was when i finally took the call b/c i was tired of them bugging me; and he then degenerated to the level of young kid talking sh it too me. i couldn't believe it.

then the man himself got on the phone and it pretty much went the same way. "please tell me why you bought elsewhere, you said you wouldn't until you talked to me, why would you do that, you lied to me" yadda yadda yadda. Joke. I Lied. This type of sh it is gold. 2yrs later, i knew i was supposed to go in there for something. i didn't think dealerships like this still existed. The question is....how do they?

Just to bump this thread,
We bought the same car, color, everything from a different dealer. New instead of used like we drove at Singer for a sticker price of $500 more!!

Too bad, I have gone a few times with my brother who bought an STI from them and then traded that in for an 08 Legacy so his wife could drive it. Both times they seemed like a good dealership but then again, my brother did not bring in a power point presentation to show them how much he wanted to pay and how he wanted them to make as little as possible, so maybe that is why they were nice

If you owned a dealership, you definitely don't want customers who are trying to give you 1,000 profit when you can get the less informed guy to give you 3,000....right?

In this case though, I am on your side and definitely plan to be much more informed next time I buy anything anywhere. Thanks for the insight.

Thumbs up Good experience

I've had a different experience with Singer, and drive 60 minutes out of my way to continue to get my service done with them.

I can't really speak for the sales-side, I grabbed one of the last '07 Limiteds in the country, so I didn't walk in the door expecting to pay anything less than list I also understand the the dealer has to make a buck off the sale of a car so I'm not going to bust anyone's balls over $500 here or there.

Service, however, is where my experience has been great. Always friendly, helpful, timely, and excited to see my car come in. The same service manager checks my car out even on routine oil changes, so I really like that someone knows me, my car, and its history.

Keep up the great service, and I'll keep making the trek up to NH!

If anyone needs an honest and easy dealership to purchase or service with, try Feder's Subaru in Middletown NY. They are an upfront, LOW Pressure dealership, and only provide the facts and NOT the fluff.
