One of the shadiest dealerships I have had to pleasure of dealing with. First sales man was nice and didn't play games. Second guy complete and utter scum bag dunno which one annoyed me more the fact that they say they have a car when they don't, its not like I can't check dealer inventories I mean really or the fact that they tried the every annoying poverty overreaction when you confront them on their clearly deceptive prices. Stick with internet price quote shopping, don't leave your house to test drive or any of that other crap when any dealership asks you to.

It seems a lot of these posts have similar themes.
I will grant that some of these posts may be overemotional and dealer prejudiced rants (this one, not excluded =) ).

I sincerely hope Maryann pulls in the reigns on the people she has working for her.

The reason I'm posting, is because I had a similar experiences when I purchased my '09 WRX from them.

I will echo others' posts and admit that I got a good deal, though my experience with the finance manager and salesman were questionable after beginning the purchasing process, to put things kindly.

I can also echo the treatment of others that I received AFTER the sale.
I felt like an "also-ran" or a "whatever" customer, if either of those make sense. Like "take your car and get out." Maybe it's their "commission-less" pay structure. I admittedly do not have enough information to comment in that area.

What really shocked me, was reading about "lost" keys/remotes in this thread.
I thought to myself "holy ish, that happened to me!"

I was given only one key/remote at purchase time and no valet/spare key & remote. When I inquired about the second set, I was told they were "lost," and in an obvious patronizing/pacification toned "oh we'll look." Ok. WHEN? Before I leave the lot? No. Didn't happen.
SO this tells me an established Subaru dealer is selling a brand new, unregistered vehicle, without the second set of keys/remote and is dumbfounded as to where they are? Business process, anyone? Seriously.

Even overlooking the principle of this and chalking it up to head up the arse syndrome, I wouldn't care too much if I could go to the locksmith and get a copy made for $5. Unfortunately that's not an option for me as we all know these are hundreds of dollars to replace.

Being close to closing time on a weekend and all paperwork signed, the salesman didn't seem to care about going out of his way to find these. Here I am thinking I just paid you guys close to thirty grand (including taxes & fees). I think you should bend over backwards to find these keys. I am a customer. Am I wrong?

I ended up finding the keys in the glove box under the owner's manual after I got home, thankfully. Based on reading what others have, I was one of the LUCKY ones.

You can brag about manufacturer to dealer awards (obvious conflict of interest, anyone?), but until you can say with confidence that each one of your employees has INTEGRITY, behave as such, and also take action (not words) to address these issues, the awards may as well have come out of a Cracker Jack box.
I hope in the time since, your group has become more customer-centric, however recent posts here indicate it has not.

When someone can get treated better when making a purchase in the Apple store versus a big ticket and multi-year investment like an automobile purchase, something is terribly wrong.

Knowing what I know now, I may even consider them & look at their inventory online when I purchase my next vehicle, however I'll be prepared and accept that the purchasing experience may not be a pleasant one.

Wow I also wish I saw this thread earlier.

Terrible experience there. Salesmen are unreal, totally unprofessional, unfriendly and rude. Also got screwed with the no remote scam. I'm surprised this place is still in business.

Will post a full review later.

Cliff notes: Terrible experience, do NOT buy here, also scammed on missing remote.


Very poor experience at this dealership. Out of the three sales people I dealt with, not one of them treated me with respect or even made it seem like they wanted my business. My initial sales person Stuart was fine, until I came to the appointment to pick up the car. Living 2 hours away I did not want to waste myself and someone else's time going to and from the dealership, and expressed that to him to make sure everything was all set. Stuart was not even present for our scheduled appointment. This was odd, but fine, maybe there was a personal issue.

I first met with Paul who spent about 10 minutes trying to sell me a warranty that he realized after the fact my vehicle was not even eligible for. Again, whatever, not a big deal. Then I meet with Rich to handle my paperwork. I was never informed by my salesperson of the final cost of this car before going to pick it up, figuring there would be taxes, registration, dealer fee. So I brought a bank check for the potion of the car I was financing and my checkbook for the rest. This was not acceptable as the dealership did not accept checks or credit cards over $1000. I was never informed of this prior to my appointment, which was pretty surprising as buyers regularly do not finance the entire value of a car, I would have expected them to take checks and definitely expect them to inform me if they did not. Rich tells me they have a machine that they can try to use to take my check but seems very unsure. Comes back and tells me it was declined, without so much as an explanation or suggestion to pay with another method, packs everything up and walks away from the desk. I'm a young looking guy, so I get this kind of dismissal a lot, but not when I'm trying to give someone $20,000. Basically acted like I was a punk kid who didn't have money and that was all he cared about.

I called Stuart immediacy afterwards to express how upset I was about the lack of communication and the fact that I wasted 5 hours of myself and someone else's time. He was not friendly at all, and told me he had no way of knowing that I was to going to finance the entire value of the car (even though I was never told the full price). He informed me afterwards that he was closing on a sale at a different dealership, perhaps my sale appointment was not important enough to be present. He continued to argue with me, and assert that this was in no way his fault. Maybe it was both of our faults, but last time I checked the customer is always right...not at Bill Kolb Jr Subaru.

I called to speak to a sales manager the next day, spoke with Mauricio. Explained what happened, told him I didn't want to continue to work with Stuart and asked what he was going to do to compensate me and make this situation right. He said he'd be willing to comp my gas up to $50. I told him that was not going to satisfy me (less than 1% off what I was about to give them?) and I think he should try to find some other way to compensate me. He was unwilling. I told him that I would be sharing my negative experience on the Internet which set him off immediately, telling me to make sure I include in the reviews that I told their finance manager I had planned to finance the entire value of the car. I never once spoke to anyone except Stuart when making arrangements to buy the car and certainly never spoke to a finance manager as I was financing elsewhere. The conversation left on a very sour note.

I could not believe the completely unfriendly and stubborn manner in which these people were treating me. The only friendly attempts made after the failed car pick up was a couple of insincere "sorry's" and a couple emails from Stuart asking me to call him to setup another appointment.

Although completely against my better judgement, I did buy the car. If I did not work 60 hours a week and had not already had the loan done and given them a $500 deposit, there is no way I would have done so.

Also, the vehicle was advertised with keyless entry. Upon delivery I did not receive a remote, and now every time I unlock the vehicle with the keys i was given, the alarm goes off which is completely unacceptable. Completely unprofessional for a dealership to sell a car with such this issue. I was told I could purchase one for an additional fee, but obviously declined to give them anymore of my money.

In the end, they had no problem doing absolutely nothing to right the situation and we're perfectly content to watch me leave their dealership a truly unhappy customer. I would never go back to this dealer and would recommend that any other potential buyer steer clear.

So I was looking around online at different dealerships for newer STIs and noticed this Bill Kolb guy...

He's got

5 friggin' STIs! That's ridiculous.

I noticed that one of the STIs in this fleet was a new 2012. So inquired as to what the deal was with it, turns out it was damaged in transport...I was told by the Internet sales guy "it fell off a truck" but was repaired. It's never been titled and has just been sitting on their lot. I'm thinking logically that with the amount of new/used STIs they have they probably would be interested in moving this one because A) it's a year old now and B) it was damaged. Not the case, they are only offering it at $996 below invoice!



The internet sales guy Stu was less than helpful. He first sent me information on the wrong STI, then claimed it was a 2013(until I sent him the VIN). All of his responses were illegible 1-2 sentence responses littered with typos and grammatical errors, where do they get these people?

I tried to negotiate further by saying the damage history will effect the resale value by thousands of dollars and he stopped returning my e-mails, WTF!?

I just tried to explain to him why would I get a year old 2012 with 1000+ miles on it with accident history when I could buy a brand new one locally for a couple hundred dollars more.

He just responded with the price is "$34868"

It's no wonder they have so many STIs on their lot, the sales people are completely unreasonable, incompetent and unrealistic with their prices.

considering how many scams these guys run why would you even go and negotiate with them. you are asking for trouble playing with fire.

When I sold my car I purchased from there, I needed to cancel the extended warranty. I sent emails, voicemails and faxes to the FI guy and the general manager and nothing got done for over two and a half months. I lost more money from the warranty company due to their incompetence and shady tactics.

I'm chiming in a little late on my experience. Back in 2011 I was dealing with one of Bill Kolb's internet sales reps. I was quoted a price on a 2011 STI they had in stock. Put a deposit over the phone on the agreed upon price.

I then set up an appointment (took a day off from work) and we began the paperwork. They take the paperwork to the finance guy and all of a sudden they can't sell me the car because I was quoted a wrong price. I walked out of the deal after this.

I then left a review on dealerrater.com and was contacted by the sales manager who had a "deal" for me. They were offering me a car that was demoed by the owners son which had 4000+ miles on it. The kicker is that they were asking A LOT more for that used car then it would have cost me for a new car.

Would NEVER deal with these shady people again!

Yea - my worry is someone is going to see my post and go buy that damaged STI thinking it's a good deal.

It's not. Look around the forums, ask around. You can get under invoice pricing, you just have to do a bit of leg work.

The only way anyone would buy the damaged 2012 STI is if it was thousands under invoice not a few hundred.

Clearly it was driven it has 1000+ miles on, it probably was/is the dealers demo car and you know what happens to those.

From all the posts on here, it doesn't seem that your dealership lives up to any of the hype you are stating. It kind of amazes me how you are still in business.
