Default 2015 Impreza Koni inserts?

Has anyone put koni inserts on a 15 or 16 Impreza? Koni only lists fitments for 2011-2014.

My 15' Impreza sport has Showa front struts.

22mm OD shock shaft
51mm OD strut housing
~13.25" strut body length
~6.25" shock travel EDIT, actually 4.75".

From the dimensions I think it's the same damn strut on the 12-14 impreza's. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I think it was 2017 when the actual body refresh came out right? I'm almost positive everything 2008-2016 has interchangeable suspension parts, although the stock spring rates might be a bit different for different trims and years, but the same fitment dimensions and all that. Including 08-14 WRX (not STI) parts.

That's what I was going off of too. 17+ is a new Impreza platform and 15+ is the new WRX platform. I did call Koni the other day and they said they were working on a 15+ option as the housings were stamped differently. I asked if it was for the WRX or the Impreza and they said both.

I think I may just need to buy a 15 or 16 Impreza strut and try to fit an insert in it.

EDIT:
Bought a 16 Impreza sedan strut on ebay for an okish price and and ordered an 8610-1453 front Koni insert from Tire Rack. I'll report back on fitment once the parts arrive.

Been waiting for my suspension to go bad to get Koni inserts! 13 Impreza on H&R springs.

Interested to see if this works out.

Donor strut part number.

I was not able to find any confirmed information on the strut mount to spring perch distance, ~4.75". Just like the narrow body wrx.

My on car measurements were incorrect, OEM strut has ~4.75" of travel.

Gutted shock showing how far down the nubs on the koni insert go. The inside diameter of the strut body after the step is ~45.66mm.

Koni insert in 2015-2016 Impreza housing. 2011 Sti spring.

Finger tight assembly with 2011 Sti spring and insert fully seated. Yes, I know I'm missing the washer and spacer cup at the bottom of the strut.

Koni insert has ~6.75" inches of travel. The strut body length of the OEM strut and the OEM strut + koni insert is roughly the same at ~13.25". I dont think the increased travel of the insert will cause any issues. The koni insert compresses fully into its body.

Anyone see any issues with the koni insert in the OEM housing?

Nice pictures! Wondering if this is something I could do myself. Did you have to modify the donor strut at all? Cutting it or anything like that?

If you can use a drill and a hacksaw you can do the koni insert install.

You have to drill a centered hole in the bottom of the donor strut. Then you need to make a cut around the top of the strut to remove the guts of the OEM strut. I used a hacksaw, a pipe cutter is easier if it will fit. Even with the hacksaw it only took 10 or 15 minutes tops to make the cut. Once the housing is empty you just slide the koni in and use a bolt to draw it into the housing and you're done.
