Intro to the Dad wagon
Hello everyone, figured I would start with a formal introduction to the community. My story is like most, I have a long history of not being able to leave well enough alone. I’ve owned numerous sc300’s, a few 240sx’s and back to an sc chassis. Long story short my last build was totaled and my fiancé was pregnant, so the dad wagon joined the family. It’s a 2003 Impreza OBS
Fast forward a few years of daily duty and neglect, I lost interest and bought a 1997 4runner. It’s an amazing off-road machine and gets us to the craziest campsites but the gas mileage is a major factor when planning a trip. Well, during this time the Subaru started overheating and blew a head gasket. But, we had the 4runner so it just sat. Not long after, the 4runner developed a misfire which brings us to today..... I made the decision it was time to rebuild / repair the Subaru so I took it in and had it fully gone through, repaired and refreshed. All new oem mounts, hoses, gaskets, plugs, wires, water pump, timing belt, radiator, brakes front and rear ect ect. It drove great but I knew the suspension was old, worn and would need attention eventually. I didn’t realize eventually meant immediately.... I took it to get new tires and an alignment when I was told the bad news. My rack was leaking and I had a bent tie rod. I went and got the tie rod’s replaced and took it in for an alignment. The guy who did the alignment proceeded to tell me he could tell because of the numbers that the shocks were bent. He also showed me the Poor state that my rack was in and he gave it a matter of days to live....he was right I decided to continue with my repair that turned into an oem+ restoration. I started researching and really thinking about what the car was going to be for. I read and read, looked at more build threads than I should have and made my decisions. Since this is not a turbo car and will be used for family adventures I decided on a few suspension and steering parts. Currently this is the list of the pile that’s accumulated. - Forester XT struts (kyb excel g) - swift springs - new bushings up front - 2004 sti steering rack + solid u-joint - 2006 sti lower control arms + new bushings - whiteline 22mm front and rear sway bars + solid links - plus trailing arm brackets and rear sway brackets from an outback/legacy to compensate for the added lift. Plus some ac components to get the ac working again before summer I’m also currently hunting down a taller set of tires 215 / 65/70 16 or something of the sort. I decided to leave the rear alone for the time being as I still have to pay somebody to install all of this (even though I pulled most of it myself and am perfectly capable and enjoy doing it) as I don’t have a sufficient place to do the parts swap I wish I did bc the amount I would save I could get the chase bays ps kit and the rear lateral and trailing arm set I’ve had my eye on. Soon enough I’ll have a garage to work in (im in the Los Angeles area for future reference) Well that’s where I’m at, looking to build a well handling / fun to drive dad wagon We’ll see where this goes... too many people around here with beautiful builds and fun looking cars. Will probably just end up throwing all group n bushings on and every sti part I can get my hands on, for now I’m just going to enjoy it for what it is and try to rack up some miles and memories

What are all these numbers?
Welcome!
I just wanted to bring to your attention that you're posting something repeatedly that somehow is getting lost in the translation. Are you posting from a device other than a PC? Here's what I see when viewing your post with a Chrome browser on a Win7 PC. Variations of these number groups are throughout your entire post. |

Thanks! I'm not sure what that markup was but I've removed it. (I was posting from a mobile device but no idea what that was)

Hey, I was just trying to be generous with my assessment. Maybe he downloaded the webpage on another computer and used a USB drive to open the saved page on an offline Win 7 computer. that is plausible..... lol
Nah but its just really dangerous to run windows 7 on a network without specific annoying precautions these days which sucks because 7 is better for certain things :/ |

I'm aware that it's "dangerous" to be using an OS which is no longer being updated, but I've never understood how exactly it's a risk. I suppose ignorance is bliss. |

So as soon as you plug it into the internet you are completely exposed via Win 7. You may not be aware of how you are exposing your personal information or your network but connecting a Windows 7 computer to your home network is not safe. Its obviously a use at your own risk kind of thing but the benefits of Windows 10 are there and its objectively un-patched to be on windows 7 these days. Welcome ZMoberg!
Seems like everyone just wanted to turn your thread in to a Win7 vs Win10 debate lol. I have an 02 wrx wagon myself (still a little dadish). I'd say you're on the right track to having a great car. Your parts list looks pretty good. Even without the turbo, you'll still have plenty of fun with the machine. Anyways, welcome, feel free to ask anything. At least you don't have to ask what operating system people think you should have on your computer! |

You can use Windows update to get to the last version of Windows 7 but you aren't getting large scale vulnerability protection. You have to literally patch EVERYTHING yourself and you can't predict every piece of malware, its impossible. And windows 10 is faster than 7 in 99.7% of things anyway. No point taking the risk with how much stuff like banking and shopping and investing is online these days.

As far as the preferred operating system goes... I do all my work and development on a Mac sooo... I’m going to get a build thread going as well because I’m nerdy like that. Last edited by ZMoberg; 04-30-2021 at 07:06 AM. |

I'm curious... After you posted (and before you edited it), what did your post look like to you when viewing it here in this thread? Did it have the emojis that you had intended, or was it all scrambled (as I had quoted/screenshotted above)?

Okay, I take from what you're saying then that these emojis never actually appear in the post for anyone, including the person who attempted to post them.
I guess I'm just surprised that anyone would upload a post and not review it (and edit/fix any errors). Interesting. |

Super cool that you are showing love to an older scoob. I started doing the same recently to my 2009 wrx that had been busted collecting cobwebs for a couple years. Excited to see what you do in the future. Cheers.
