My AC is losing refrigerant an a fairly rapid rate... Less than 24 hours to go from fully charged to low enough that the compressor won't kick on.
The compressor is working perfectly when the system is fully charge. I followed all the lines for any visible problems with no luck. Dye and a UV light have been ordered and should be here next week. Aside from checking all the joints, compressor, condenser, etc. are there any known components to be problematic on these cars? I use the AC all year as a dehumidifier and it wasn't until this past week that I noticed the humid air and lack of cooling. |

Initially, I was using cans of R134a with a gauge set, but on this last top off, I used a quick recharge can from A/C Pro... Which I just realized has "leak protection." Maybe it was the leak protection, maybe it was my own fiddling around at all the joints and making sure there were secure connections. But the car has been blowing ice cold, even on 1 hour drives. I'm not entirely convinced my "major leak" hasn't just reduced to a minor leak. We'll see if that leak seal gums up any other components... At least the AC system isn't too hard to replace. Time will tell. |

I got the PQY wing stabilizers.
$35 off Amazon, I don't see why you would spend anymore for a piece of plastic to support your wing. I opted for two, rather than three, and the fitment is nearly perfect. Only minor sanding was required to get them to line up without any gaps. 3M VHB tape is included. It's a tight fit and I had to try and lift the wing upwards when putting these in place; they aren't going anywhere. The STI wing had a lot of flex at highway speeds, but it remains planted now. You could probably sit on this wing without it collapsing. |

Shifter stop installed. What a difference it made in tightening up the shifter feel!
Amazon link to the shifter stop that I bought: https://amzn.to/3eExMY7 I see no reason why someone should spend more money for this little piece of metal. |

Hopefully the frugal parts are durable and won’t have to do it all over again. Nothing wrong with frugal if the quality is there.

Don't be cheap on suspension and go-fast bits, quality matters there. But for a tiny CNC'd piece of aluminum, it's all the same. |

I prefer the term frugal ;-)
That’s why I buy Enkei or O.Z wheels and not exotic brands. It is possible to buy good quality at reasonable prices. I do wish I could talk myself into a set of RC-T4 |

Still enjoying the WRX as our family car.
I haven't posted much, only because this car is so reliable and I wouldn't consider this Stage 2 to be a "build" or even a "fun car," it's just our alternative to a minivan without being boring. The C30 is nearing the completion of Phase 2 and the 987S remains an enjoyable weekend car. |

There seems to be a lot of mixed opinions on this forum and from tuners regarding spark plugs on the FA20.
My WRX was "pro tuned" by the previous owner for Stage 2, but I know it has factory spark plugs. Whether or not the tuner took that into account, I do not know. In my years of tuning, I've always gone with step colder plugs. But I see that most aftermarket parts suppliers and many tuners say the factory plugs are fine for stock turbo builds. Anyone have any insight on this? Considering that it has been running fine on stock plugs, I'm not opposed to replacing them with the same. |

Replaced the brake pads. Easy 30 minute job.
Nothing fancy here, just street pads. |

Nice!
My boy likes Subie rumble, my daughter does not. Yet, she likes to help wrench, not my son. |

Working on maintenance and discovered that this car also has a Perrin Pitch Stop Mount installed. I love discovering upgrades that I didn't know I had.
One more reason why this WRX felt so much better than the stock ones that we test drove. |

Made the car a little more family friendly by welding in a FlowMaster 200cel cat on my catless Invidia J pipe.
Coming from a history of catless cars, I find this to have made a significant difference in the smell. As expected, the turbo takes a bit longer to spool up, though this really isn't that noticeable on the street. High RPM exhibits a bit more restriction and definitely feels like the car is being restrained from what it was. It's also a tad quieter in the drone range between 2000-3000RPM, but not by much. Seeing as it's just a daily, no complaints. |
