Insurance isnt something to be understood. I just bare my cornhole and let the company crawl in with their big boots on.

I am so torn right now. I want to wait for this GR4 Corolla, the new STI and the golf R, but I am so tempted to get a 21 STi since I’ve only ever owned the VA WRX with FA.

Yup this is where you and I differ significantly. Annual insurance premiums are as much as a factor to me as tire cost because i tend to keep what I buy. You trade in vehicles like what, every single year? That sounds like you don't even get to a tire change. I don't buy things this way. I buy with the intention to run it long term and own a title. So insurance is part of long term costs. Hundreds extra per year is not significant but once annual insurance premiums are 4 figures in difference per year that's something that may get the boot. I may go to a higher end car that cost thousands more if insurance premiums are 1/3. I don't buy anything without calling my insurance broker first. Each to their own though, it's their money. It's sad that here so many of younger folk have bought WRX and STi's, raced them, wrecked them, got tickets, etc. They have damn near ruined the car for me. But will wait until new FMC's are out and rates can be checked. Sedanigans tend to be pricey for insurance however. For whatever reason the insurance carriers are much more favorable to hatchbacks. |

You are not missing anything as the EJ257 is not a very good engine in this day and age as it's fragile and gutless. Wait for the new STI as it should be much more capable especially on the street so you can spare yourself the embarrassment of not being able to keep up to V6 Camry's and turbo Accords at stop lights.

I kept my ridgeline for 2 years. I kept my audi Allroad for 3 years. I have started to stretch out a bit. But there was a time I had two cars on an 18 month rotation so every 9 months it seemed like I was shopping. Those days are over. New cars have become increasingly boring in the sub 50k category, and now my daily drivers have to do many jobs, from Home depot, to towing to camping and family vacations so a fun small hatchback is out. My garage has two classics in there now that are more overall fun than any new car I have driven in a long time. Sure they lack the 0-60 bragging rights. But they are infinitely interactive in ways new cars have long since forgotten. I enjoy taking the GC offroad. I have never had a vehicle that could do what the jeep could. It is a new kind of driving I have never done before and while we lack any serious rock crawling in Texas, a good off road rocky trail is only about 2 hours away. It is very different than track days and autocross, but it is very rewarding as well. |

I need 4 doors because I have a 20 month old in a rear facing car seat, and a 2nd kid on the way. I NEED 4 doors. Some people have a family, friends who'd like a little space in the back, etc. In this case, you're the exception, not the norm. Toyota will easily sell 100x more 5 door GR's and they would have 3dr. How many 3 door Golf R's do you see compared to 5 door? What a stupid post lol. Quote:

If Subaru brings the wagon/hatch back, the STi will be high on my list. If it's sedan only, the MK8 R will top the list. The Corolla GR being the wildcard. Exterior looks good, interior will be a step down (but so will the STi). It's funny, as an enthusiast who wants 3 pedals, it feels like there aren't many options. That said though, the 3 options about could be really solid. And likely the last line of sporty MT 4dr options before everything gets electrified. |

Pretty much in the same boat. I want 3 pedals again, in something fun to drive. Now that the Impreza is close to being paid off, I have the option of having a fun second car, or trading in the Impreza for a fun primary car. I think I'm done with road trips across North America with family and friends. Now I just daydream about driving a truly engaging car, traveling on a whim with one bag full of clothes, while avoiding highways... in Europe.
If the GR Corolla is a hatch and is engaging, I guess I'll stick to one car after trading in the Impreza. But if it's not thrilling and the STI is thrilling, but still a sedan, I'd probably just have two Subies. The new BRZ looks fairly underwhelming to me, although under the skin it's a huge improvement in everyway over my 2013 BRZ. Just not sure I feel like jumping back into that game again. It's a good time to finally have so many options. The performance market has felt kinda dry for the past decade. |
