Anyone here ever packed up and left for the hell of it?
I have these dreams of just packing my crap and moving to the West Coast. I live in boring ass Indiana! California seems like it would be a sweet place to live. Perhaps Washington state.
Anyone here ever said F*** IT and just moved for the hell of it?

Yes, twice.
First time was in 96, I moved to New Orleans. Fiasco. Second time was this year, moved out to Illinois. Not a fiasco, but in retrospect, it was not a wise move, at least financially. |

Yep I packed up and moved the hell out of CA in 1992. Never went back and damn sure don't miss that place.
Sometimes moving away is a good life altering event. Consider it flushing lifes BS down the toilet and starting with a fresh bowl to crap in. |

My parents did that and moved from Detroit to Anchorage, Alaska. Ended up living there for 25 years. (And no, they're not hippies.) Just wanted to try someplace safer than Detroit. The thing is, when we moved back to Michigan in 1993, they sold their house for 16x what they paid for it!!! So..good move.
Last fall, I decided to move from Michigan to North Carolina. 6 months later, I packed up everything I owned and moved. And...I don't regret it a bit. It's important to get out of the "comfort zone" occasionally. -Andrea |

I've done it quite a few times. Thinking about doing it again, just not sure were to go. After I got out of high school(graduated in South Dakota). I moved to Minnisota, then Wisconsin, then Colorado, then So Cal.(I hate that place, I had to live in the gheto because I was so poor, white boys from South Dakota don't do well in Mexican hoods), lets see, after cali I moved to DC, DC was kinda cool but pretty gheto, got tired of DC and it was getting cold so I went south to North Carolina, then I moved to Michigan, wandered around Michigan for awhile and now I'm back "home" in South Dakota.... getting bored though, gonna split soon... just don't know where to go.... It's scary, I've moved a million times and it's scary everytime.

I've contemplated this idea many many many times and right now I'm on the verge of doing it and moving back to SE MI to be closer to my best friend and my folks.
Other places I've contemplated on just packing up and moving to have been: SF, San Diego, the Philippines (I'm Pinoy-American) the UK or Toronto. I've learned that I'm not the type that can stay focused in one location for that long. I always think that something different is better. It's always seems "better" someplace else... -mykr. |

i got the hell out of the new york city/new jersey garbage after realizing that i had hated it there for 7 years. walked in one day, told the people at work, "i quit" (not that i liked them) and was in the boston area a week after that.
it's worked out fairly well for me. sometimes you need to do these things raj |

I think that people should never live in one area for their entire life.
Yes, pack up and move to the West Coast but try and find a job there first, unless you have enough to live on for a while. I used to live in Indiana and currently live in WA state. What a world of difference! Sorry but the midwest and Indiana suk balls. You have to pay me at least $10 million to make me move back to that area. The West Coast is where it's at! Especially in Northern California. Unfortunately, living in N. CA is too pricey. |

I left home at 17 with nothing but $50 and a place to stay. I've never been back, (except for holidays and visits, but never to live), and it was the best thing I ever did. Sometimes a change of scenery and a little freedom can make a world of difference. (yeah, it was VERY difficult financially, but some things are more important than money)

Left California when I was 18, moved to Anchorage Alaska. Lived there for a year, some of the best and worst times of my life. Drove back to CA took 9 days and I survived the then unpaved Al-Can Hwy (dunno if it's paved now?).

Washington state dude, California is expensive to live in if you want to live the cosmo life. Unless you have some remarkable skills that no one else does. |
