It's not easy being awesome is it? You make it seem so easy

The bottoms of mine ripped off...well, got blown into my tire (both sides) and got chewed up. I might make some new ones, but I already secured my wire bundles with some calpico 10mm tape. It's like electrical tape on crack.

First autox event of the year and my drivers side came off. I was on my way home, going around a corner at an intersection at <10mph, you wouldn't believe how loud it was. I thought I had crunched some sheet metal somehow. I was relieve to see that it was just the liner... I wonder if anyone has ever fabbed up some custom ones.

You must have lost several clips over months. The autox was probably just a coincidence. Your freeway drive took the last front clip and slurp the tire eats it up.

The stupid clips are constantly falling off for god knows what. Just dialing drive and clips will disappear.

Bottom line, as part of inspection maintenance you're just going to have to check fender liner clips too.

My car only had the back half of one of them in it when I bought it. Then again, I bought the car with a terrible chargespeed-knock-off fiberglass bodykit, so when I switched back to the stock bumper cover, I didn't have fender liners.

I pulled some out at a junk yard once, but after getting them home, cleaning them, and making sure that they fit well, I realized that 80% of the fender liner is actually covering the FRONT of the wheel assembly and underneath the front bumper. I guess I kinda figured at that point that it was more or less unnecessary and just never put them in. But putting some of that Griot's Garage stuff on the inside of the fenders is helpful for protecting the vehicle and for noise reduction.

I will probably just keep rolling without them, as I really don't see them being incredibly necessary. That, and I can claim that it is "weight reduction"

Don't do that.

There are wire looms in there that are exposed without the liners. The liners keep moisture and mud out of chassis. Reduce noise and reduces the amount of junk the wheels kick up from flying into the engine bay.

Do what UP2MTNS did and make heavy duty liners.

Hmm. Well, I've been rolling around that way for about.....6 years now, with no issues. The wires were covered with split loom when I bought them. But I may look into this "heavy duty" mod anyway, just to keep it clean inside and reduce road noise.

My front bumper is sagging a bit due to missing the front fender linings. For everyone that has their lining removed, how do you keep the bumper attached?

I had heard that before as well but it's complete B.S. manufacturers use them for a reason as they keep moisture from the wheels and tires out of the engine bay. Yes the wiring is water safe but it's still not a bad idea to leave them. Even in my super low cars I run them, even if I have to cut two of them apart and and zip tie them together to get the clearance I need.

06 wrx here, and yes a lot of wires are exposed on the driver side which sucks and i havent had the time to tape them up yet.. like most people said here you should prob take them off if your really low and have an aggressive setup, which is why i took... well mine ripped off while driving in NY but ive kept it off since then =D

Mine shredded off (just the bottom parts). No big deal though, mostly still there.

I'm not sure if you bothered to read the info in the thread yet but there is no way that washing our cars is the issue. One of the major issues is clearance from wide wheels and wide tire setups. So unless the washing of our cars can give us more space in the fender well, I just don't see your point.

It's absolutely necessary on the 04's, it practically holds the front end together

Lost my 1st one ever this month on the highway at 70mph, scared the bejesus out of me...

Washing my liners would put back pieces that get worn off and mend cracks from rubbing? Dangg..wish I knew this all along.

^^^^^yes it does....i should know

No really, without the fender liners pop-tabbed into place, the lower front corners where "splitters" would be move quite a bit with no structure there....the design is poor & perplexing actually.

both driver and passenger side liners on my car are disconnected from the front bumper ( 2 clips where they meet the stock sti splitter ) and i haven't had any problems with mine. they kind of just hang out there lolol
