I wanted to run something by you all. My 2019 STi is FBO, flex fuel, and 20G XTR. In the process of pulling the header to install my Perrin motor mounts I noticed the primary for cylinder #4 (just had to be #4) was black and the other three were a light tan. Rubbing your finger left no residue. Looking into the exhaust ports I saw no differences between the four. When I was initially dyno tuned for stage two the motor passed a compression test done by the tuning shop. That was about 10K miles ago and now I'm tuned for a 20G XTR, EWG, and Killer Bee holy header. I opted for a conservative tune that netted 380WHP and 370WTQ on a dyno jet. Ever since my factory specified break in I consume 1 qt every 3k miles. I do get on it frequently and do a lot of engine braking so the oil consumption doesn't concern me too much. Every one of my Blackstone oil analysis's has come back good. Knock consists of the occasional 1.41 at high load tip in and never during WOT.
I've decided to do a step by step diagnostics process that my tuner an I have agreed on. First is after 10+ tanks of E70-80 I ran a tank of 93 through it and was surprised at how fast my exhaust tips sooted up. After a couple more tanks of 93 I intend on pulling the header and inspecting it. If the primary is still black I will pull the plugs, inspect, and compression test. While I'm under there I will install the cylinder 4 cooling kit I got last Christmas. I'd like to add that at no point in time is smoke apparent from the exhaust, start up or otherwise. So on to my question. Do those of you that go from E85 to 91/93 experience the sooting up of the exhaust tips? My hope is that my ID1300 injector for #4 was dirty and delivering too much fuel and the 93 will clear it up. The way the car runs has given me no indication there is an issue. Any insight you all could offer would be appreciated.

Forged internals and full bolt ons. Could have made more power but we ran out of injectors. I also think I have a preturbo exhaust leak which is why the spool is so slow. Tuned by Henry at Church automotive. Last edited by jesseisbeast; 01-03-2021 at 04:27 PM. |

Good afternoon everyone. I have another question before I go flex fuel. I already have all the parts to go flex but my tuner recommends I go with an EWG prior to coming in for a tune. Is this a necessary piece (I don’t have a problem doing it) or is the stock setup ok for flex. I currently am tuned with 1050 injectors, turbo inlet, catless TB, grimmspeed fmic and intake, 3 port ebcs, and regulator. If an EWG is recommended, I’m looking at the grimmspeed one as it looks like a well built piece. Any help would be great, thanks again everyone.

The problem with the VF turbos is they like to boost creep a lot especially at higher boost so going EWG is a great idea and you should 100% listen to your tuner if they say its an important piece of the puzzle for your build. |

Agreed. Had exact same issue (boost creep) than an ewg resolved |

Thank you guys for the replies. I ended up getting the ewg so I just need to set up a dyno time to get the flex set up.

For the ewg you get different springs that actuate at higher or lower psi. Depending on what your tuner recommends, I suggest going for a stronger spring that opens at higher boost... it helps to not hve to be too careful with the throttle when you dont want it to be loud... mine starts opening around 7psi and I wish I had known about it beforehand. I would have prefereed it opening somewhere between 12 and 15 psi...

Excellent!. I’m on my 3rd STi. Got 1400 miles on my 2020 stage 1 pro tuned so far.....Have a bunch of parts from my flexfuel 2011 and going to do something soon I will probably only go stock location 20g or Green and TMIC with flexfuel but would love a rotated set up, FMIC and that PW manifold is a thing of beauty!

That was fuel pressure on the pull as well as injector duty cycle. My fuel system is definitely more then I need atm, but I bought with the intentions of a built motor in the near future. But yes I need to! Botti actually sent me another fire map and I am yet to do a pull and some logs. So it will be more power I do have a clip of a prior map revision when the stock clutch started slipping. It started to slip around 5400 rpm lol. And that was around 25 psi |

Did you buy the car new? You got a virtual dyno sheet? I am building a big motor setup in my 02 lol. Using a GTX 3576 Gen2, IAG magnum SB, 207 Spec C heads, 199D cams, ETS FMIC, STI non-DCCD 6MT etc. Should be a rocket ship on ethanol when its done. And it'll rev to 8K Last edited by K3rm1tth3fr0g; 04-29-2021 at 01:03 PM. |

Yep brand new last July! I got this plot from a few of the revisions. Keep in mind it doesn’t have my final revision, as I have yet to log it Man that thing will be a screamer also! Ethanol is king |
