STI - Nameless Axleback & Catback
Hey Everyone. About two months ago I purchased a Nameless axle-back exhaust with 5" mufflers for my 2019 STI. I drove it that way until this weekend when I installed the Nameless mid-pipe to complete the cat-back. Most reviews are for the axle-back and I don't feel that the nameless website does a good job of describing the catback sound.
Axleback ONLY (5" mufflers) - Big improvement over the stock setup. Really nice, subtle, deep sound. Cold starts sound really good with just the axle back. Once warm, the idle noise is quieter than the stock mufflers and the low speed drone is gone. Absolutely no drone at highway cruise speeds. I could hardly tell I had an upgraded exhaust on the highway unless I was passing. City driving and under load it has a really nice, deep tone that does not attract attention but sounds so much better than stock. Id agree with Nameless' assessment that it is a 5 on a scale of 1-10. For a daily driver it is probably enough but you may find yourself wanting more in the future. Keep reading... Resonated Catback AND 5" Mufflers - I bought Nameless' midpipe and bolted it up to the axle back I already had in the vehicle. Fitment was perfect. Donut gasket was a little strange for me as I am used to a flat flange with gaskets or vbands. Weld quality is very impressive. The midpipe made such a big difference to the sound of the vehicle. It is significantly louder now but it still has that deep rumble and is relatively quiet on the highway and cruising. Idle and under load it a good amount louder but it is literally the perfect sound. When I imagine an STI or when I hear the perfect exhaust setup drive by...thats what this sounds like now. None of the videos capture the real sound. I would be worried about the sound level with the smaller mufflers in the Nameless catback and definitely the muffler deletes. It would be too loud for me. Cold start with this is really nice and would be pretty loud for some people, but for me it is perfect. Sounds like a helicopter when cold. Light throttle has this really nice rumble and WOT screams pretty aggressively, but is not at ALL raspy or tinny. During downshifts I experience some nice gargling noises now which I did not with the axle back. The full catback with 5" mufflers bumps it up to a 7/10 in terms of loudness. It was expensive to complete the catback, but I am 100% am glad I did. I'll probably find myself buying the downpipe some day but not for a while...still under warranty. Hope this helps anyone on the fence about the Nameless product. |

With the stock downpipe the drone is minimal with the midpipe. I would say it is slightly more drone than the axleback alone but not anything crazy and it is mostly just when you’re part throttle low rpm. It is definitely a good amount louder, but I wouldn’t describe it as a drone. Cold starts are a lot more aggressive with the added midpipe. Adding an aftermarket downpipe (catted) increases the drone somewhat significantly. I think it would depend on your tastes. Some people would find it perfect, others might find it too loud for daily driving with a downpipe. |

I will say that with a Cobb catted dp, stock midpipe and nameless muffler delete, there is zero drone. I drove this set up for about 10k.

Necropost but since I just ordered the Nameless 5" axleback I found this on a search.
I have a 2020 STi (Series White) and it shares the same midpipe as the 2019 which is 2.75", which is larger than 2018 and older. Reason I did just the axleback is it seemed silly to spend $600 or so on a midpipe that gained 0.25", and thinking it would not change the sound that much. But you are saying otherwise. Guess I'll install the axle back and see how it sounds as I'm looking for a bit more sound, nothing crazy. |

Yeah you can always add it later. Also note that the resonator is significantly smaller than stock with the nameless midpipe which contributes to the change. The tubing diameter may have a small effect but, I’d attribute most of it to the resonator. |

"When coupled with any of our axleback exhaust designs, the system has shown gains of up to 34ft lb of torque at the wheels and 22whp on the EJ series STi and test data should be released for the WRX shortly. Reduced turbo spool is also a big plus." |

I had the nameless axleback exhaust system 4" tips with the 4" mufflers for more than a year on my 2020 STi and I thought it was loud, really what an STi should sound like.
However, a couple of months ago, I added my first performance mods and got a pro-tune for my STi, and along with those mods, I added the nameless midpipe to my configuration to complete my nameless catback exhaust system and let me tell you about that sound...WOW! This is how an STi should sound like in my opinion! I mean it has crackles and pops when I downshift! But instead of me trying to explain what it sounds like, please check out the video I made of my mods where I have my GoPro camera right above the exhaust and please let me know what you think here and/or in the comments on my video. |
