how is this different from say using an STI short block and putting ej251 heads on it? CR could be wrong?

The EJ251 is 'open deck' while the EJ257 is 'semi-closed deck'. Theoretically the semi closed deck is more resilient to things like cylinder wall vibration and deformation. If you compare the open deck to the semi closed side by side, there's not much extra support on the semi closed.
Older 2.0's and 2.2's were available in proper 'closed deck' form, there's a picture of one earlier in this thread, page two, I believe. |
