Default Anyone know of a VQ37VHR swap? Other suggestions?

I have seen several drive train component swaps into STI's and WRX's from 350Z's and various other Nissans. I am toying with the idea of doing an engine swap of "some" kind in the future, but I have yet to find a "reasonable" candidate.

1. Does anyone know of any VQ37VHR or other VQ-- swaps?
2. IF NOT ....... does anyone know why other Nissan drive train components are used ...... and other V6's have been swapped from other manufacturers, but not the Nissan V6?

I'm still in the consideration stage for my future build, so I'm open to advice or suggestions. I have seen numerous various swaps, transplants and hybrids, but none that really combine what I like. I love the Subaru AWD system (especially the STI transmission) and I also like big flat torque curves with low end torque. I would like to combine those two things.

My goals:
1) Retain the STI transmission and AWD system
2) To reiterate #1 (because that part seems to be forgotten when I ask individual people) ......... Retain the STI transmission and AWD system
3) A larger displacement engine of any kind that has ~350hp with a reasonably flat torque curve with relatively ample low-RPM torque.
4) A "reasonably" reliable drivetrain for DD-type use.

I know this is asking for a unicorn, but does anyone have any suggestions for thought?

I don't have the dimensions of the VQ's, but I'm guessing that has something to do with it. Are there any decently reliable V6's that fit under the hood?

Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) makes alot of the parts and are used by both nissan and subaru which is why alot of parts like brakes, diffs, etc... are interchangeable. essentially they are the same part from the same parent company.

engines are usually a different story though.

I had noticed that. It seems like the drift-cars and RWD conversion people tend to swap in diffs and axles from the Z's.

I was just curious about engine swaps. I like my Subarus, particularly the STI transmission, but I also like disgustingly unnecessary and gratuitous grunt power on crappy fuel ('Murica!). The Subaru community tends to be relatively "conservative" and not terribly adventurous when it comes to engine swaps compared to other platforms. It is rightfully so, given the unique drivetrain configuration and engine bay.

There are a few fairly adventurous builds hiding out there that generally aren't members on NASIOC (Buick V6, 13B rotary, LS V8, euopean diesel boxer), but I had not seen anyone with a Nissan engine swap.

This is completely tangential with respect to the Nissan question. I assume a few people are aware of this, but a guy in TN imports and modifies the Subaru diesel engines

I hope you have a giant stack of cash ready to ignite, and like the look of giant hood bulges. That VQ is going to be WAAAAAAAY taller then the EJ. Custom IM for sure... relocating accessories for sure... custom hood for sure. Even then IDK....
Not trying to quash your hopes or hate on Nissan, I've owned 5 Nissan's and the VQ series are great engines, it's just gonna be a crazy chore to fit it in there with the stock tranny position.

^^ That's why I'm seeing what other people have done. I have no particular interest in the VQ's and I'm not really planning on doing this particular swap. It's more of a brainstorming and research concept for my next project.

I was curious because it seems odd to me that:
1) Nissan drivetrain swaps are common for RWD conversions and big power.
2) V6's and V8's engine swaps are out there (essentially always RWD)
3) No Nissan engine swaps

You could actually try the infinity M37 drivetrain or 08-present g37's which both come in AWD. It's just a matter of making/cutting to make some custom parts fit.

Yeah I know a lot of diff's mate up pretty well, and back in the 90's during the time FHI owned a chunk of Nissan there were a lot of shared parts. Sounds like you know what you're gettin into. I think a big bulging hood hiding a VQ would be cool.

There is absolutely NO way you can fit anything other than a Boxer under the hood and retain the original tranny/AWD. Believe me....I have tried lol. Problem is you would have to relocate the radiator to the trunk , lose any sort of bumper beam....and still be left with half an engine sticking out of the VERY front of the hood. On top of the 70/30 weight distribution it's gonna have..it wouldn't be too practical for daily use.

I was looking into VQ adaptor plates and ran into this STI with S2K.
