Been talking to my russian friends at once, if you take the increased mortality rate to be closer to 100% covid related the number fall in line with what they have been expecting given what they have been observing and the back of the envelope calculations they have been doing. |

My sister-in-law just tested positive after an unmasked group hike resulted in three positive cases. She's been pretty dismissive of the risks, but now she's being very apologetic to everyone. We saw her (outside, distanced, and masked) on Christmas, but we still have to totally isolate for ten days now. Cool.
We tried to warn her repeatedly all year. Now she finally gets it. |

Follow up: when should the wife and I get tested? We saw my SIL on Friday, so we're four days past the time of potential exposure with no obvious symptoms so far (wife has a mild sore throat, may be unrelated). Is tomorrow still too soon?
Edit: just found a JHU study from July showing that PCR tests are most reliable around 8 days after infection, or an average of 3 days after symptom onset. Last edited by Balantz; 12-29-2020 at 03:37 PM. |

I'm pissed. She knows I'm a possible high-risk candidate with my history of life-threatening pneumonia. And she saw her grandmother who's nearly 90 on Christmas day, too.

Sucks to hear an oft-repeated story. "It's not serious until it affects me/those close to me..." Let us hope anger and the inconvenience of self-isolating is the only thing that comes out of this.

But yeah, chemo, as in, let's put this bag of platinum inside of you and see how that goes... It's always nice to see my fan club. |

The hospital in my small 40,000 resident town is full and is sending people away now.

You seem to have a disingenuous question about why a vaccine is different from chemotherapy. I mean... the two are different. Diesel fuel and wind can both be used to move a boat, but they aren't at all the same thing. |
