Oh look, it's a nonissue, just like I said it would be.

Cyberpunk 2077 damage numbers can be turned off, 'a lot' of HUD settings optional
Quote:
The Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay reveal was viewed by almost half a million people. I'm excited, but feel its HUD is a little cluttered in places—not least during its combat sequences. Lucky for me, CD Projekt Red says damage numbers can be turned off and a host of HUD elements will be optional.

Following Monday's gameplay reveal, Sardukhar, a moderator on the game's official forum, asked prospective players what they liked and disliked about the footage. Within their own observations, they say they'd like the option to remove the damage numbers above target's heads—which Sardukhar has since updated with a reply from the dev's community lead Marcin Momot.

"That is exactly our plan," Sardukhar quotes Momot. "A lot of HUD elements (including damage numbers) will be optional."

This echoes Momot's sentiments on Twitter. When asked specifically about "damage numbers flying on the enemies heads", and whether or not players can turn this feature off, Momot said: "We are planning on allowing players to turn off/on a lot of the HUD elements."

You'll play Cyberpunk 2077 however you so chose, but I fancy scaling back its HUD and UI entirely—in the same way I played and modded The Witcher 3.

Look out for today's PCG Q&A for more on what we liked and disliked about Cyberpunk 2077's new footage. In the meantime, here are five ways the gameplay demo somehow lives up to the hype.

That's good because I noticed the HUD a lot during the gameplay and it seems unnecessary most of the time.

I actually watched the whole video.... For a ps4 owner I'm pretty excited. This sort of reminds me of Half life 2, with some Metro Redux elements thrown in.

I didn't see anything wrong with the combat system. It's pretty standard either lock on targeting, or spray. I think the ideas they have for implementing upgrades to gear etc are pretty clever. Open world looks great, and it reminds me a bit of GTA.

Pretty excited... Hopefully this will run 60 fps 4k at launch for us console owners.

Even with an X, I expect a hopefully completely locked 30fps and hopefully 1800p but I'm not holding my breath for the latter.
It'll probably be dynamic, sometimes hitting close to 4k.

Haven't watched yet so I don't know how in depth they go with pixel counting or anything.

I think I officially need a 2080ti now. Not sure if it'll be better to play this on my 144hz 1440p monitor or output it to a 4k HDR TV, though.

Dude, I've been waiting for this to come out for a while now. This weekend I almost geek squealed when this dropped.

****, I'm going to have to trade in my 1060 for something stronger. ****ing april of next year...

I don't need the 4k, but I span 3 monitors, so its pretty taxing.

Yeah... I've made it pretty clear how I feel about first person looter shooter RPGs, and my disdain for reliance on HUDs in gaming, but it really does look like CDPR is going to deliver a breathtaking game here. I'm thinking I'm going to put together 4k 60fps capable PC to play this. Hopefully AMD brings some capable GPUs to the market this year. My new TV is freesync capable and I'd love to take advantage of that.

I'm sure CDPR will update it when Scarlett comes out to be full 4k 60.

In the year 2020, April 16, many people will disappear from the society.

I maybe one of them.

While I'm sure to buy whatever Scarlett ends up being, I'm sure as hell not waiting that long for 4k60.

REDEngine 4 and CP2077 was designed with the next gen consoles in mind. It's more likely the game is aimed at next gen consoles and is downgraded to play on current gen consoles.

I don't doubt that in the slightest, I just assume it will be like current gen games with the X where they just needed a patch to enhance it.

I was late to getting into The Witcher III but now consider it one of my favorite games from the last 10 years. Based on the developer goodwill from TW3 my great debate for this game will only be whether to buy for XBX or PC (PC is a couple years old with GTX 1080, 16GB ram and an i5 7600k).

Hoping to build a new PC finally (after years of wanting to) and this game is the catalyst for that.
