Freezing up could be a clogged filter, low on refrigerant, bad metering device, and maybe some other ****. |

We had this problem before. It turned out to be an ac oil filled capacitor that leaked and went bad.

So, looks like we're getting a new AC unit either end of this week or first of next week. Got quoted for a new compressor for 1500 but that's without a warranty, or a new Bryant unit installed for 3500. Going with the new unit makes more financial sense in the long run.
The new windows we put in about 3 years ago have really proven their worth the last few days. Granted, we've got a bunch of box fans going in the house, but yesterday with the temp at 91 and heat index of 101, the warmest the house got was about 78. I guarantee if we still had those old single panes, it would have been mid 80's easy. |

I need to update a 72" bathroom vanity. It is 2 36" bases with one big 72" top. Do they sell these tops cheap? Or is it custom?
I may just paint it. |

72" is probably a custom top, 60 is usually the 'large' standard.
We have an 80" that we had to do a custom for, which was about 1100 with sinks installed. |

72" is a standard size, at lease in worktops. The next size is usually 90"

My first house was absolutely horrible in the summer with single pane windows and an old AC. If I cooked dinner, the house would still be hot hours later, so I'd have to make a big pot of spaghetti on Sunday mornings and eat it all week.
Vinyl inserts and a new 15 SEER HVAC were well worth the money. |

Just bought a house with what appeared to be a nice GE gas stove/oven. I was excited until I tried to use it - the stove is ****ing worthless. It takes forever to heat anything. 15 minutes to bring a small pot of water to a boil. The amount of gas isn't the problem - lots of flame...
It looks like the burner design is the problem? The flames shoot out sideways from the flame vents, so the higher you turn the knob, the more outward the flame shoots, heating the sides of the pot rather than the bottom. Even on the smallest burner, it had trouble heating a large pan. Is this a common problem? Is this fixable with an aftermarket burner? |

That sounds pretty normal. Some higher end burners have like dual flame or such designs, but most sealed gas burners are just as you describe. Not really sure it's a problem.

Ok lot's of questions that unfortunately link together...
We've found out that our plumbing going from the master bath to the main line is old and crumbling. Plumbers ran a camera today and they said at the 90 degree turn from our shower they get only mud and most likely some of the water is dumping there. They said they were going to quote two different options: one to open the sheet rock and try to do a 2" blown in trenchless thing which has not guarantee of working or bust up concrete and replace pipe. I know nothing about plumbing, without seeing it can anyone think of any other options I have here? Next and related, we have a magnolia tree within 4-5 of our house and right outside of where the master bath is. I just read the root system for these trees grow horizontally and seek out leaking pipes and make it worse. This could possibly be the root of the issue. What options do I have here to prevent plumbing/foundation issues in the future? The only thing I can think of is cutting it down which is unfortunate because it's a good looking tree. Last, school me on home improvement loans. Since we may be busting up concrete, we figure it's time to remodel the master bath completely. However, I don't want or need another loan payment so I wanted to look into options that allow me to add it to my mortgage or refinance and do the same thing with the mortgage. We only bought the house a year and a half ago but I have great pay history and credit. Thoughts? Fun stuff... |

Sounds like you've already got the answers. There's no magic to a pipe - if it's busted, you have to replace it. A shower doesn't need a 3" drain, so if they can do a drain liner on it, good enough. If not, there's not really an option other than busting it up and replacing it. I'm assuming you're on a slab foundation and that's why?
Could very well be the tree, but again, there's no magic - trees grow, or you get rid of them. Roots will grow through just about anything over time, you can't control them. The mortgage will be a matter of appraised value vs owed. If you owe more than 80%, it'll be tough to do. You might be better off with a credit card with a 0% for a year or something like that to pay for it. |

My 8 year old Toro died inexplicable. Just stopped working. Took it apart, put it back together. Runs for a couple seconds and dies. Thinking ignition so I ordered a new one. We shall see. If it doesn't work I'll be buying a new Honda.

My first guess would be you're running the wrong orifice sizes (propane vs natural gas require different sizes), if the previous owner didn't leave the alternate set (almost all stoves come with NG orifices installed and the propane ones in a bag or stuck to a card) you can buy replacements online. Propane orifices running gas will give very small flames (propane runs at higher pressure, so they use smaller orifices) that won't heat well, while NG orifices on propane will give you large flames with too much heat IIRC. |

As I read the first few words of that I was already thinking "time for a Honda..." but hopefully an ignition does the trick. Good luck.

You could try a new carb. $30 or so on amazon. It fixed mine and now it runs great.
A mower should last longer than 8 years. Of course, a new shiny thing is tempting. |
