Project car thread, what are you pissing money away on?
Since OT doesn't Subaru, what are you working on? *even if Subaru* What have you done?
I'll start and probably finish the thread. I'm dumping money to support my inner redneck. My first vehicle was a big Chebby truck, 4x4. I missed it. For their faults GM parts are cheap and LS engines can make stupid power. My end game is a turbo Yukon sleeper that I can storm chase in and haul crap. So for $3700 I got an 02 Yukon. Body, trans, engine, rear end good. Everything else bad. Almost home: Previous owner just removed one parking brake. New parking brakes and dust shields. Entire suspension rebuild with new brakes, sway bars, wheel bearings, shocks and control arms. Front diff rebuild because of bad bearings. Xfer case rebuild, bearings, chain and so forth. Rear diff check. All good. G80 gov bomb not sploded yet. 4l80e trans picked up, cleaned and soon to be converted to a 4wd setup.

Taking a break and doing a load of cats.
New modded crossmember I welded up to hold up the 4l80e Pressing in bushings. Custom exhaust. I still can't weld. New flexplate. Trans in with 3200RPM high stall converter. Bad valve body. Stuck valve. Only 2nd gear. |

That looks like a fun project. Keep updating please.
My money pits at the moment consist of a 88 CRX Si, 92 Miata and a 92 Civic Si. All are in some state of disassembly. One day I will be able to drive them. |

I have a few parts...(all of those bins and totes have parts from other donor cars, and that's only a small portion of them) Cleaning up K-frame for paint Currently has a 440cuin in it with a 727 auto trans and 9-1/4 rear end out of a cop car. It was gutted and 'built' to be a drag car. I have had it running a few times through whats left of the glasspack mufflers and it shakes the house. I bought a new gas tank and lines, have new seat covers, carpet, headliner, 3-4 sets of bumpers, fenders and doors, glass everywhere. I need to spend the time putting it on the road. |

My main project right now is my old 2003 Fr0d Rustang. It's actually at a shop right now because I need someone to fabricate the hot side of a turbo system for it.
Over the last few months, I pulled out the 4.2L turbo V6 I was using, as well as the transmission. I installed a GM LQ4 (6.0L iron block truck V8, similar to LS1) and played around with different accessory and manifold combinations until I figured out what would give me optimal clearance, did bit of a hack wiring job to get the GM ECU working for now (although I may eventually go standalone) and got the transmission mounted. When this is finished, I'm going to be using a custom built longblock based on the LQ4, but with forged pistons, forged rods, better heads, a wilder cam, and better fasteners throughout. I am going to use a Tremec T56 Magnum as a transmission, and it's looking like my best option for a turbocharger is a Turbonetics 7875 ball-bearing unit. The goal is to hit at least 6-700 wheel horsepower. I'm stupid enough to do this because I like the car. I've had it since it was new, and it's still in decent shape cosmetically. It has very extensive suspension modifications, halfway decent brakes, and a Torsen diff. Inactive projects: I did a bunch of suspension crap to my 2013 Mustang GT and then stuck a supercharger on it. My Forester has a bunch of STi stuff in it, has all the body lift stuff removed, and is actually somewhat enjoyable to drive now. Last edited by lemming; 03-25-2016 at 12:45 PM. |

On the Yukon, replace all the brake hard lines. There are plenty of kits out there because rest belt trucks go a bit over 10 years then the lines burst one by one. The one to the rear on my Yukon XL required that the body be lifted off the frame. Well, unless you can redneck it and clamp the line to the running board....

I'll play.
This is the bane of my existence, my 1979 Trans Am WS6. I bought while in college in 2002 as a daily driver. That didn't exactly work out. Came from the factory with an Olds 403, but around 2008 I swapped in a PontiMutt V8 (74 400 block, 68 350 crank, 71 400 GTO heads, .060-over with domed forged pistons). Still sporting a TH350, but I recently picked up a TH200-4R for it that needs to be gone through. The 200-4R should bolt in with no modifications to the driveshaft or adapters necessary. It's been off the road since 2012 with a number of issues, but I'm hoping to get it back on the road this year. Since swapping in the 400, it's had a number of small issues, like the time the rocker arm fell off and the lifter popped out of the bore: And the time I though that rocker issue screwed up a valve and it was just a leaky header gasket: And the multiple issues I have had with the starter (broken terminals, wires melting, etc): All that is squared away now, but the car has gotten crusty from sitting, so I need to replace the front floors and do some body patches. It's getting there! Build thread here: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/fo...6/86460/page1/ |

Bought a wrecked 07 Impreza at auction and I'm fixing it.
This is what it looked like when it was almost completely torn down. Swapped the automatic out for a 5 speed after this photo was taken. How it sits currently: Just needs to have the motor dropped into it and wired correctly for the new transmission. Just a weekend of work left to do but I haven't had any time to do it lately. Probably tackle it once the weather warms up. |

here's my "project". If you've visited the BMW thread you know about it already
1998 M3, 4 door, 5 speed with just under 140k miles. Currently I'm just going around cleaning up/fixing the basic maintenance type items. Sadly I never take pics when I do work, so all I can offer are words. It came with the following mods: Dinan tune, intake, and exhaust UUC lightweight flywheel and clutch for M5 Koni shocks front and rear Thus far I've done the following since I bought it in Jan Oil change Spark plugs aluminum radiator, new expansion tank, new hoses, new thermostat, new fan clutch valve cover gasket fixed burnt out bulbs in the dash new Alpine head unit with amp and sub in the trunk and new speakers in the front doors fixed the previously non-operational sunroof Cleaned the idle control valve out This weekend I'll be doing a full brake job, so pads, rotors, and sensors. I'll also be replacing the clutch slave cylinder, then bleeding that whole system (brake and clutch hydraulics are one system). I'll also be replacing the throttle cable, which had destroyed grommets, allowing for a lot of slop. Otherwise, some longer terms plans include tie rod ends, front and rear suspension/bushing refresh, engine mounts, rear diff mounts, shifter bushings, and then maybe something to clean up the paint. Either actually fix the paint or just do a vinyl wrap. |

I have a '95 silverado tbi 350 with 196k miles on it with a 4l60e. It shifts remarkably well given its age, but when it goes I'd like to 4l80e it if it's not prohibitively expensive. |
