Oh, hey, I missed this. CONGRATS! Pen the day in as what is called "Yahoo Day", the day that the Dr cleared you of cancer, where you elicit a "Yahoo!". Awesome news man.

Congrats on the bonus!

For me/us: Had a day date with my wife on Saturday. We went to the matinee show of Evil Dead, The Musical. Lots of fun! Then a late lunch/early supper in town. It was a good day...

Ditto, congrats.

I already covered that bonus-taxes post over in the humblebrag thread. Apparently it got the goose of the fat dog's owner.

Roommate had his roommate back out at the last minute so he's staying another month, which is good because I haven't fielded a serious email about the room in two weeks.

Because it didn't take the Bavarians very long to figure out that the weather is a lot better in September than it is in October.

Oktoberfest is a two week long event, all but two days of which takes place in September. I've been to Munich in October, it's ****ing cold.

Found a RedBullTV app for my TV so I can finally watch WRC again without having to download it from somewhere, with a bonus of MTB racing!

Our Great Aunt (aka, The Aunt) died 15 years ago. That's definitely NOT a good part (but we knew that already, see next point).

When she died those years ago, we siblings, and our cousins, and other family, were named partial beneficiaries and 'got a share' of her estate that was liquidated and cashed out and divided according to the will. That was a really good part, but not the point of this post... well, maybe it can be?

Got a call from my brother yesterday. That's not the good part.

He got a call from our cousin yesterday too. Our cousin was one of two grandkids of 'the aunt', and his mother, the Aunts daughter) passed away earlier this year, and his dad about 4 years ago, so he was next in line. That's not the good part either.

So, our cousin, who was also a named beneficiary in 'The Aunt' will, got a call from someone explaining there was some "unclaimed property" still in her name. Ok, we're getting warmer to the good part.

Thinking it was a scam, he went to the office of unclaimed property in his city and checked things out. It ended up to be valid and true. Evidently, the lawyers that executed the will *missed* some stock that was in The Aunts name. Getting closer to the good part!

When The Aunt died, it was valued at about 75cents/share. Since then, it had split 3 times, and in the past 3-4 years went from about $3/share to just over $300/share. (She had about 800 shares in her name still, until last month... from having 200 initially, split to 400, split to 800). ~$250,000.

So, as it stands, all the named beneficiaries from 15 years ago get their same cut from those years ago. That's the good thing! All told, close to $15k before taxes.

There will be a headache though, because this was all settled about 15 years ago, and the lawyers that handled this will have much explaining to do (yes, there will be tax, estate and other ramifications) because they failed to execute the will completely and properly... and in the 15 years since, some of the named beneficiaries have passed.
