I'd vote for any politician who pushed legislation to burn this company to the ground.

I have Digital Prefered HD service...1 HD box, no DVR.

Recently, my box has been rebooting on its own while I watch any on-demand programs. I've gone through the whole 'unplug box, unplug cable, blah blah' thing many times, many 'refresh signals sent', still does it (it did clear up a couple of ****ed up channels I had, so there is that), but the box is still rebooting (shuts off, and then on, has an 'r', then cycles through every possible alpha-numeric on the display...takes about 20 min each time this happens.

Hmmm...okay, seems this happens during a firmware update....might have to see if it happens tonight while watching on-demand.

It also appears it doesn't like being unplugged in the middle of this, that may be why it happened a few times.

Why not just take the box back to a Comcast store and swap it out for a working one, especially with no DVR. Hell, you'll probably get some free **** out of it - every time I walk into a Comcast store to deal with something, the person at the counter usually offers me a free premium channel or some other way to lower my bill.

That's next on the list....my store is 40 min away, in the direction of 'I never have any reason to travel there'...which sucks.

I've been pretty happy with Comcast for the 4 years I've lived in Spokane.

Back in Cincinnati I had major problems and finally switched over to Fiber Optics through the local phone company which just destroyed all other services.

However, I have had few if any problems here. Even got a new modem/WIFI Router from them. It is kind of cool because you no longer connect to the modem via a modem password but you use your Comcast Cable account login. However, I wonder if other Comcast users could pirate my signal or if the router will only work for any user logins associated with my account. I haven't checked this at all because I can see that every house in my vicinity has their own WIFI router so it is unlikely that they are pirating off of me.

Except for their porn anyway.

I am probably going to have to ditch them soon. Google will be in Atlanta, so they will lower prices there and make that up in the outlying areas that don't have much choice.

Your router from them becomes part of Comcast's public WiFi network. So other people can connect to your AP but it is completely separate from you. It also won't use your bandwidth while you are using it. You can turn it off via Comcast's account page.

Comcast reached a new low for me.

We moved and cancelled our service in October and turned in all of our equipment. I later got a invoice in the mail from Comcast saying we owed 16 dollars for the last two days of the month (ok). It was paid then in October.

We just got a collections letter via Comcast in the mail saying that we owe 90 dollars for who knows what. What the ****.

I may drop our cable and just keep their internet. Broached the subject with my wife yesterday. Not going to be easy... she loves her channel surfing, and I like the sports. But I'll wait until it's warmer where I can put up an HD antenna so I can get local.

When I was in KC, I heard that it was one of the locations picked by Google to set up their infrastructure, so many people in the area have it. People say it is nice, but doesn't have anywhere near the number of channels or movies that a FIOS or cable has.

I have X1 available in my area....but until I'm able to get the same level of service that I had with SD cable (nearly 0 issues in 10 years), I'm not doing it.

I don't live in Atlanta or in the suburbs that will get Google, I am just outside its proposed range. So what I am saying is that my Comcraps will probably get more expensive with no real alternative.

That's my biggest beef with Comcast. I've never had any problems with billing or pricing or anything. Anytime I've called I've had a great experience.

I used to have the silver motorola boxes with the blue menu screens. It was bulletproof, just like TV service has been since I was growing up. It just always worked.

Then Comcast came out with X1 in an attempt to modernize the user experience, which is commendable. Verizon FIOS and Netflix/Amazon interfaces blew the Comcast original blue menu out of the water. So they came out with a gorgeous interface with the nice logos and icons and DVD covers. But it has been a little inconsistent, slow at times, and there have been more outages in the last year on X1 than I experienced in my whole TV watching life.

This is Comcast's attempt at getting rid of QAM frequency delivery, moving to unicast point to point IP connections. However, Comcast's vision seems to not be focused on video quality anymore. Reliability? Different story.

Cox's HQ is in Atlanta, there is no Cox service in Atlanta though. The Atlanta metro is Comcast and Charter.

Also X1 still uses QAM to the home, at least for now. The device in the home is a video gateway and converts from QAM to IP for IP devices like other STBs.

Comcast raised the rates again. Call -> transfer to loyalty department -> more channels and back to the old price. The game never grows old.

Yeah, I was going through my bill last night.

I dropped the sports package in the beginning of Dec ($8.95).
This months bill was only $4.30 less (expecting to see it $8.95 less).

I was like... how did THAT work out? Go back to my Dec and Nov bills, and my Nov bill highlighted the rate increases.

I didn't see it because I got a credit on my Dec bill for the sports package.

One of the other reasons I want to drop it. "just because" reasons to raise rates.

Ah, I've done some work at the Cox HQ, automatically assumed Cox had locations in and around Atlanta.

Somewhat on the other part. Comcast will be switching to ip delivery and removing QAM. QAM requires nailed up linear services, unless doing defunct systems like SDV, where QAM eats up bandwidth. Everything will eventually be switching to unicast connections even through X1 as TVE continues to roll out. I do not work for Comcast but do work with their design and engineering groups.

Ah, I have one of these too. I had autopay setup with them. When I got fiber I cancelled and apparently they decided not to take the final payment. So I try to pay online but they've already nuked my account. So I call and am informed that I can't pay them on the phone because the account is terminated. Long story short, they apparently never considered the possibility that anyone would ever leave them so I had to wait till it entered collections in order to just get them out of my life.

I've had Comcast (xfinity) for over 2 years and cant really complain. They seem to handle things well and I've had really good experience in SF.

However, in NJ the experience has been pretty crappy. It took over 6 hours to get 1) a decent bundle, 2) convince them to self install without paying a fee, 3) do a instant stop existing service and start new service.

The box stores a copy of the firmware in two places, NVRAM and on the disk. If the hard drive copy is corrupted due to a failing disk it will do what you're describing. Only thing you can do is swap it. Sorry.
