I'd also have to put coilovers on the truck too. Already dropping a grand on tires this week.

I had no idea they were that expensive until I looked into it when I bought a house. Decided that's a lot of driveways I'd have to plow to make that $$ back.

BTW, when it's more than 4", we get plowed at $30/pop.

How many times do we need to be plowed a year? 5? Maybe 10 times?

Wanna save $$? Hire someone to do it. Not having to get up early and do it yourself is awesomesauce.

As with anything... fall/winter is not the time to buy a plow/snowblower.

Make do this winter with what you have and wait until spring/summer and buy a used one.

$4000/$30 plow = 133 jobs. Get 20 driveways and plow them 7 times in a year the 1st year and it's paid for. (Or 10 driveways and 14 times in a year). Then again, I have a regular job at a place that never closes for snow, so wouldn't be able to be out doing them in the wee hours of the morning/day.

KC only asks kids to come do his driveway so that he can then proceed to yell at them to get out of his yard.

I just found last years Ariens 250cc/24" for a great deal on CL. Unfortunately, can't get a hold of the guy.

Uh huh. No way I'd be rolling out of bed at 3:30 to plow driveways then go to work and school. There was one time in the 5 years I've worked at my current job where they actually told people to stay home. Too bad I had already made it to the damn office because I had class and the university never cancels.

Or get one commercial building, and it'll pay for itself in one 10-12" snow storm..with about a $6,000 profit.

If you're spending that much money, get a Honda HS928TA with rubber tank treads....

You're a wise man. I'm selling my plow truck right now for the exact line of reasoning.

Know how to turn a dishwasher into a snow blower?

Give her a shovel. (Yes, that is all I have to contribute to this thread.)

It's even funnier when read in a 'Sean Connery' voice.

Looks cool, and is also one of the most worthless ideas ever... Tracks work great if you are driving on snow. Kind of the point of a snowblower is that it shouldn't be driving on snow, if it is, something is wrong! Get a little ice under a layer of snow and those tracks are absolutely worthless. Their advantage is for things like gravel driveways where you want to leave a little layer of snow, and ice isn't as much of an issue.

Knobby tires + chains is what you want. Much higher PSI on the ground, and can bite into ice to keep it moving.

tracks just make them even larger and clunkier.. I'd rather have my deluxe 28 where I can unlock the axle and pivot easily.

My dad says the 24 Deluxe is too much $$$, but Im going to buy it anyway and have him give me whatever he was going to spend on a lesser model.

How's the axle unlock work? On our MTD its done with a lynch pin and thats not exactly convenient. I ended up leaving it in the "locked" position all the time and just skidding the tires to turn them.

I'd agree with him.. you'd be fine with the 24" compact. the 250cc motor is a beast on my 28". I usually have to run it at 75% throttle so I'm not throwing snow too far and hitting neighboring houses. But go for it.. more is better when dealing with New England snow.. I think I said that wrong.

there is a handbrake type lever on the handle that can disengage the axle.. takes a little wiggling of the snowthrower to get the axle locked again.

I might have to go buy a snowblower today.

We are in a new house with a long driveway that is a corner lot. With a new baby to come in two weeks. Yeah I might not have the time to be out there with shovel this winter.

I think the real reason is that I just like gas powered tools!

I've got a 10% off coupon at Lowes that HD will accept too so I'll look there after trolling Craigslist.
