But I'd look more towards using Van Gogh (or any other artist/artistic style) as inspiration instead of recreation. Perhaps that is what you meant though.
Attempting to recreate a famous artist's technique is an excellent mechanism for improving your own technique.

Very true. The museum in Amsterdam is pretty amazing. I wasn't a big fan until I went there and saw so many of them in person.

Yeah Van Gogh paints with oils, mine were with acrylic, and he paints straight from the tube. Pretty amazing stuff.

We love Van Gogh. We've got a few prints of his paintings in our house. My mom even painted a copy of Café Terrace at Night that's on our walls.

There's an Immersive Van Gogh event going on in Chicago, saw a billboard for it a few weeks ago and remembered about it last night. We have a wedding anniversary coming up, so we we got some tickets to go see this in a few weeks on our anniversary.

Looks to be a very cool event, looking forward to it!

Years ago when we first started dating there was a Van Gogh and Gauguin exhibit at the Art Institute here in Chicago that we went to. Still have the coffee table book somewhere.

Detroit Institute of the Arts had a nice impressionism tour in the 90's.

How to Pronounce Vincent Van Gogh? (CORRECTLY) - YouTube
I remember that! Someone came to our elementary school, bright prints and talked to us about some stuff and then we went to the DIA a couple days later while it was still fresh in our minds. I guess you could say it made an impression on me. I vividly remember the one of people near a river, on some steps. Victorian era. Lots of big dresses and hats. I think it was a Monet?

Went two years ago and I really enjoyed learning about his life and how it affected his paintings throughout his career.

A Vincent Van Gogh painting of a Paris street has gone on display for the first time after spending more than 100 years behind closed doors.

A Street Scene In Montmartre has been owned by a French family for most of the time since it was painted in 1887.

Sotheby's estimates it could fetch up to eight million euros (£6.9m) when it is sold at auction next month.

Van Gogh expert Martin Bailey told BBC News that this is "the first time we are able to see it properly".

Small reproductions have been made in the past, often in black-and-white. "What is exciting is that it is a Van Gogh painting which has been hidden away ever since it came off the artist's easel," Mr Bailey said.

So we went to the exhibit on Friday. I really enjoyed it. Social distancing was in place and for the most part, everyone followed it.

There were 3 rooms (in Chicago) and a balcony area playing the 40 min loop of the show. Very cool visualization of his paintings. I personally could have sat in the room and just been in that environment all day.

I took a few videos while down on the floor and then a few from the balcony. I also did a timelapse of the final 15 or so minutes from the balcony that I think turned out pretty cool.

Overall, we really enjoyed it. If you have any interest in art or VanGogh specifically, I would say go to this exhibit if you can. It won't disappoint.
