I like the idea of Spot too but never rode one.

Bigger brands seemed to me to have more stock (Trek, Specialized). The newest stump jumpers look good.

So I don't have any proof of this other than scuttlebutt, but one of my industry friends told me yesterday that Specialized lost an entire container ship's worth of contents in the latter half of last year. Somewhere on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean there's a whole bunch of Tarmac SL7 and Stumpjumpers... I guess that's what insurance is for!

This obviously doesn't link Specialized or any specific cargo, but I did find this news blurb and it lines up with the timeline and route discussed.

The CEO of Santa Cruz did an interview where he basically said 2021 is done and to start looking for bikes late 2021 or early 2022 FWIW.

Lots of companies lost stuff from that. It hasn't been fun dealing with that supply stream gap

I put in a deposit for a Giant TCR Disc something or another with Ultegra Di2 back in the first week of Nov 2020. At the time, the fulfillment system said Week 25 2021. I checked in with them 2 weeks ago for the first time since then, and Giant is now saying Week 50 2021, but my order is guaranteed. The price has also gone up by ~$300 since then too.

The plain jane rim brake Shimano 105 groupset I ordered back in August 2020 came in around Jan 2021. Another Ultegra Di2 groupset preordered back in the first week of Jan 2021 is on its way to me now. So there's some recovery happening, but this backlog is going to take a long time to resolve.

Either you gotta be patient...or settle for SRAM.

That's not that surprising. SC is a boutique compared to Specialized or Trek and there's only so many manufacturers building frames.

They get most, if not all, of their bikes for the year in one batch.

As ****ed as the big boys have been over the last year, the little fish are just happy IF they get any bike orders filled.

Higher ups at Trek is saying they're going to catch up in 2022 as well.

It's pretty hit and miss, I made a Project One Emonda order in the beginning of Dec, got it at the end of Jan. It also had a non-standard seatmast/post, bar/stem combo and wheels, so there wasn't much of a supply issue. But I bet everyone who waited until spring is f'ed.

I've been watching the in stock dates for pretty much everything rolling back for months on the Shimano VIP site. I wanted to get some Ultegra pedals when I ordered the Emonda and the new date is in two weeks...at least that's what it said yesterday.

What do you think your FTP is?

You really need an actual power meter.

Nice.

Yea, I’m 5’8” at the beginning of the day. Getting bikes on the roof is a pain in the ass.

I guess probably a lot. The Kuat is pretty heavy for me to lift but doable. 75#? Then each bike 30# maybe less for the kids. Maybe 200# total?

That 4Runner looks good with 5 bikes, but dang that 4 bike rack off the end adds some length.

I went out to Floyd around lunch today. It was mostly dry, but I would recommend sticking to the more direct climb since the backside was rideable, but still wet in places. Feels great to be back on the bike. I hit a few new drops and a couple optional lines that were new to me. I’m getting really excited for the year.

I’ll have to take a more side profile pic - it does stick out but this angle makes it look a hair longer.

I think I’ll use that roof rack for my rides where it’s just me for now. I may grab the hitch mount and make a single tray hitch mount with my other 1up after spring break. Just the ease of loading will be helpful. Also after the 4runner gets its lift I’m not sure I’ll have garage height to get in with that 1up on top.

So getting a new carbon frame from anywhere is September (Orbea, Trek, Specialized, Salsa.) I could just replace my Rustler, with maybe the only one left at REI on-line but I want 29" wheels, and I don't want to sit on a 10% dividend.

So I am now getting what I can, which is an Orbea M20, add a DPX2, and probably better brakes, and maybe a different fork. I don't remember if the one the LBS ordered is Eagle or SLX, but it should show up mid April. I may just leave the shock on, and buy a Carbon frame / shock when I can. I would rather put the $550 towards the shock on the frame, but maybe I'll just be happy with AL, which I doubt, so we'll see.

Buy once, cry once.

If you want a carbon frame and Fox Factory fork, buy a bike that comes with them.

Trying to revive a 15yo Gary Fisher that has been hanging up in my garage for half that time. The hydraulic brakes dont build pressure T all. I filled the reservoir. It didn't help. I opened up the (master cylinder?) And its filled with oil jelloe substance. I cleaned it as best as I could. I got a brake bleed fitting kit and sucked the old fluid out of the caliper and was able to get most of the air out by using the syringe as a vacuum bleeder. Still no pressure is building so I am guessing bad seals in the master cylinder?

Never really messed with these before. Do I need to take everything apart and get dirty? Thought this would be a 10min project but I guess not.

Brakes are branded hayes sole. Other options are admitting defeat and paying a pro or just buying a new set of brakes. Are the calipers relatively interchangeable across brands?

Thank. Cable brakes ftw

I’m not going to be a ton of help but as fas as I know the calipers/levers need to match because different brands move different amounts of fluid. Maybe all the seals are dried up? If you aren’t afraid to dig it I wonder what happens to take them apart and lube stuff like o-rings.

I'd be riding a lot of road and gravel or just get the $3,500 bike and be done with it because there's nothing wrong with it.

I'm not going to spend $7k to end up with a $5,500 bike. An Orbea frame is how much? The used market is going to crater as well. A Fox Factory 34 fork is a thousand ****ing Dollars! They aren't THAT much better.

I think you need new brakes..if it had been ridden and upkept they would probably still work.
