I suppose it could be a handshake issue with the HDMI connections, you haveany extra HDMI cables to try?
So I have a new issue. When I switch to my 360 all I see is striped lines on my TV. I have a 99% confidence level that everything is connected correctly. Component cable from 360 to receivers <<DVD component IN>>, HDMI from receivers <<OUT>> to TV's <<IN>>, and component cable from cable box to receivers <<CAB/SAT component IN>>.

I can watch cable tv just fine but for some reason the 360 isnt showing picture but I can hear sound. Is the HDMI cable messed up? All the HDMI package says is 1.3 HDMI. Any suggestions?

All of the inputs/outputs are user adjustable so that could explain why you get sound but no picture.

Could be a couple things. Is the switch on the back of the 360 set to HD? Also, you could try switching it to SD, going into your settings and changing it to a different res (1080p to 720p, vice versa) and seeing if that changes things. You could also go grab a different cable for the 360 and see if that helps. Or a different 360 all together. I've seen some fail where the display borks like that.

I did what you recommended. I switched the setting on the back of the 360 to SD and I could see the picture. I then went into the console settings to put it to 1080 but then the picture went out again. It's not letting it go HD unless the switch on theback of the 360 is set to HDTV setting but when I switch it to HD I have no picture.

My 360 was a first gen and it doesn't have an HDMI output. I use component cables to connect to the receiver, then an HDMI cable to go from the receiver to the TV. For some reason the receiver won't communicate through the HDMI to the 360 when coming from component.

1080P isn't possible from components, by specs/license/etc.

well whatever, 1080i is and it's still not working. I might just return the HDMI cable and get an extra component cable.

FWIW though, When I play COD4 (which is 1080p capable) on 360 through component the info button on the TV says 1080. When I watch cable TV through component the info button on the TV says 1080i. IMO, the component cables are capable of transmitting 1080p signal.

It is capable by spec, it won't because of licensing. However games don't have to follow the specs.

Ok I need a receiver - my cheapie Onkyo HT-r340 **** the bed last night. realistically I don't need a switching receiver just something that can drive 5.1 or 7.1 and that has one opitcal and one coaxial digital input (i know, all of them should be able to do this now)

I found this Onkyo TX-SR506 on amazon for $160 ($50 cheaper in silver, which is fine by me) and realistically this is overkill for me

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...cmu_pg__header

any thoughts on something from one of the big box stores as I'm all about instant gratification...

I've got a problem. Moving into a new house, and will be losing my dedicated HT But in the new house I'll be able to build a bigger & better one But that won't be for a few years

Which means I'll have some extra gear until the new HT is completed. I'll take the gear from the dedicated HT and use that in the family room of the new house.
Already have gear for a dedicated video game room.
Already have gear for the computer room.

The problem is what to do with the 4th receiver? Do I hook it up in the bedroom (no good place for a tv there)? Use it in the garage? In the guest bedroom?

I like to have these kind of problems

Gotta have toys. Besides all the video game systems won't with all the HT gear, so gotta have 2 seperate rooms for those. And then the wifey & I don't fight about either watching TV or playing video games since we only had room for 1 real TV. We weren't going to play video games on a 13" tv. That's just, well yuck

And the computers have to go somewhere. Might as well have a nice sound system hooked up to them too right? What else are ya gonna do with old receivers?

I know I'm going to regret this question because it's probably really obvious and Im going to feel like a moran. I've got some Logitech z-2300 speakers hooked to the tv(42" flatscreen) So how do you play music from the dvd player without the tv being on?

Dumb question?

Or not?

unless your tv can pass the audio through when its off - you can't, you'll have to hook the speakers up to the DVD player.....

unless you have a DVD player hooked up to a receiver...

to answer your question, depends how things are set up. But if your running your DVD player into the receiver & the speakers into the receiver...
1. turn on DVD player
2. put in music
3. Press play
4. switch input on receiver to DVD
5. Cry alone in the corner listening to your emo crap

OK, so I need some advice.

I currently have a 42" projection TV with a DVI conection, no HDMI. I have a HDMI>DVI connector hooked up to my Xbox 360. I just picked up a PS3 and I need to figure out how to have them both connected, I'm looking to get a switch. I'm looking to pick this one up: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

Anyone have both connected to their outdated TV & surround sound systems?

BTW, what's the difference in the HDMI cables? Can anyone recommend a specific one on monoprice? I don't need a long cable.
